Summary
When Lambert loses his silver blade on a hunt, he's forced to go looking for a weaponsmith capable of forging a replacement. Few and far between on the Continent, but he'd sooner chew his right arm off than return to Kaer Morhen with his tail between his legs. His contractor sends him to Vattweir, where he meets a former Cat Witcher with a complicated history. Lambert's initial advances are violently rebuffed, but as he spends more time with Aiden, he uncovers a man that is still beholden to ghosts from the life he tried to leave behind. As the embers of more complicated feelings begin to gather, another watches on from a distance, guiding Lambert towards happiness the best he can while hiding his own broken heart.

“Why Jask? Why would you do such a thing?” Pain is so evident on the Witcher’s face, Geralt should never look like that.

But what he couldn’t handle was the questions. Why he hadn’t settled down yet, why he didn’t have a nice Scottish girl on his arm.
Why he wasn’t married with a child on the way, because Ethel and James weren’t getting younger, and John was already too old. For fuck’s sake.
“Maybe I don’t want to bring home a wee lass,” John had snapped, voice cracking as he dug his spoon in harder than necessary, a brown, congealed clump of freezer-burned rocky road flying onto the floor. “Maybe I don’t even like women, has anyone considered that?”
And there, in less than twenty words, John had completely outed himself.
