If he was laying down in his bed beside Hollander’s desk it usually meant that he was relaxed and not expecting any trouble.
If his dog was sitting down next to Hollander, head in his lap, it usually meant Hollander was in a good mood, perhaps celebrating something but not relaxed enough to have his dog completely off guard.
Now where you didn’t want to see Shane Hollander’s dog was standing behind him, fully alert, his sharp eyes scanning the room, ready to attack at a moment's notice. This usually meant your chances of leaving the room were small, this meant the boss was angry and the boss being angry made his dog angry.
Now Shane Hollander’s dog was not an actual dog, but rather a 6ft 6” Russian called Ilya Rozanov.

James was almost to the table when he heard the portrait hole open; he turned automatically, before he'd even recognized the sound.
It was Evans. She was with her friends; they had bookbags with them, probably just come in from studying out by the lake. The other two were talking animatedly but Lily seemed off somehow, as if she, too, were concealing troubled thoughts. Her gaze passed over him without acknowledgement, like he wasn't even there. Like he didn't exist.
"Prongs? What's the — ah." Sirius had seen her too. They were going up the stairs to the girls' dormitory. None of them had spared so much as a glance for the rest of the common room.
"Don't worry about her, James," said Peter instantly. "She's nobody. You could have practically any girl you wanted after today …"
James didn't respond. His eyes were fixed on the back of Evans's head, and he felt entirely hollowed out. She'd never ignored him so completely before. He was used to her rolling her eyes, to the disdainful toss of her long red hair that showed just how little she thought of him, but actually meant she knew he was watching. This was something else.

Summary
The villain origin story of Kadroth, an antagonist featured in Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden. It details how he came to lead the Knights of the Black Sword before the events of the module. Technically also a supplement, if you're a RotF DM wanting to give Kadroth a little more flavor and backstory. This fic is complete and finished.
Kadroth is a Waterdhavian accountant who is forced to undertake a dangerous journey to Ten-Towns for a chance at saving the life of his terminally ill father. Things rapidly spiral out of control when his caravan is waylaid by bandits, and he has to make the desperate decision of a lifetime. Help arrives, but it is nothing like he'd have expected. Kadroth struggles to survive in a world where archdevils plot and scheme, as the victim of an ancient vendetta.

Ambear was supposed to be having fun with her friends while sneaking glances at Megii with her stupidly adorable bowtie.
Megii was meant to be learning to dance while admiring the Ambear in her dress.
Ros was supposed to be dancing with the prince she had been assigned while gazing at Sniff in her beautiful red dress, jealous of Osteon.
Sniff was meant to be dancing with Osteon, worried about Ros, but excited for her date nonetheless.
Instead, the doors slammed shut.
The bandits came without warning, turning a night of celebration into a massacre. Friends were dragged apart. Magic was turned against its wielder. Those who fought were beaten, and those who surrendered were taken.
It was never supposed to end up with everyone cold, alone, rotting, or dead.
