After being captured while on a solo op, and enduring several days of torture, John had given up on hoping for a rescue. Just as he had finally accepted that he was never leaving his cell alive, the team of former disposable delinquents he'd reluctantly attached himself to knocked down his cell door and saved him.
That should have been the end.
However, odd dreams started to plague John after returning to the Watchtower. At first, he thought it was just a result of his untreated (and undiagnosed) PTSD rearing its ugly head, but as the dreams became more vivid, and strange things began happening around him, John was left to wonder if it was him that had come back wrong.

Humanity has long moved on from the simple concept of the internet. Very few use it.
There was only one human left on the whole collapsed system. He could maintain it no further. He needed someone to maintain it for him for when he had to leave.

Well, Marth is a woman. Chrom had... not figured that out before. Nor even suspected it. He's not sure what this changes, but it changes, well, something.
