this is my attempt at angst, which i can never just leave well enough alone, but had a jolly old time doing research for (air traffic controllers and their environments). speaking of ambiguous endings...
CW: you may guess from the whole air traffic controller thing, but there are a few mentions of airplane accidents. there are no in-depth details, if that helps.

Summary
True story. When i first was trying to get ideas for this story, i opened up the wikipedia page about dragons and did a control+F for the word sex. The only result it gave me was a list at the bottom of the page of monsters in speculative fiction, and the appearance of ‘sex’ was between ‘evil clownS - EXtraterrestrials’ lol. I cackled at that one.
Anyway the point is wikipedia was useless, so the plot for this fic came from a quora question about why a dragon in D&D would ever mate with a person? Answer included the following: “Metallic dragons are capable of forming meaningful relationships with humanoids. An elf lives nearly as long as a dragon, so it is possible that there are some marriages between an elf and a dragon.”
And my brain was off to the races…

quite obviously, i made up that "latin" in the title there. (the actual translation of 'seize the doctors' would apparently be: medicos comprehende. that's not anywhere near as amusing.)
this fic was so ridiculous that it basically wrote itself. that's how you can tell.

"Nick," the woman says. She looks at him, right at him, with an eerie calm that sends shivers down his spine. "Do you think you and Charlie are soulmates?"
"Well, you just said—"
"It doesn't matter what I said. Do you believe, deep down, in your heart of hearts, that you two are meant to be? That you two would find each other in any universe?"
Nick is positive that he'll wake up tomorrow and scoff at the things his brain comes up with when he's tired, heartbroken, and running on fumes and vodka lemonades. He knows all of this means nothing, and the woman in front of him isn't real, and this party isn't real, and none of this is real, and Nick is living in a nightmare. He knows he'll wake up soon.
Still, might as well tell the truth.
"Obviously. Yes."
The woman smiles. "Good. Then prove it."
Or, it's been minutes since Nick and Charlie broke up, and Nick is already desperate enough to use interdimensional time-traveling to fix it. Featuring alternate universes, angst, fluff, a quick stint as enemies-to-lovers, flower shops, Ferris wheels, and a touch of magic.
