The garden was organised. Sucrose could recognise many different species with medical properties and strong scents. There were many flowers as well. The cottage’s lights were on, warm squares in the windows. She could see movement inside, but it was only brief.
She shook her head lightly and headed for her cottage. Its front steps creaked under her weight. She fumbled in her pockets for her keys, fingers clumsy with fatigue, then finally found the right one and opened the door with a soft click.
Indoors was relatively empty. The air smelled faintly of old wood and something floral that might have been the cleaner used on the floors. She set her suitcase down and stood still for a moment, letting the quiet settle around her.
Sucrose moves to a small town on the countryside for her herbarium for the summer. She was planning to spend a peaceful holiday alone, without the hassle of social interaction, until this plan is interrupted by a mysterious neighboring lady who seems to be keenly interested in her.
