Chapter 1: Chapter 1.

Chapter Text

There was never a day that chaos didn't erupt in the Weasley household.

Just a couple of days after they've gotten back from their trip to Egypt, they — especially Mrs. Weasley — had fallen back into the rhythm of home.

"Fred! George!' Molly called from the bottom of the staircase, "What have I told you about leaving your mess around?! Clean it up this instance! The Grangers are coming at any minute!"

"Merlin forbid I want the house to be presentable to company." She muttered as she wiped her hands on her apron, making her way to the kitchen.

Heavy footfalls fell upon the staircase, weirdly it was not as noisy as two sets of those footfalls usually sounded.

"Oi Lover Boy!" George shouted upon reaching the last step, realizing that his twin wasn't behind him, "Quit staring at the mirror! It might throw up from looking at you too much!"

"Oi!" Fred said in protest as he walked down the stairs, "You just don't want to admit I'm the better looking twin."

Ginny scrunched her nose as she caught a whiff of the air when Fred walked by her, "Are you wearing… cologne?"

A teasing made its way to the younger twin's lips, "Lover boy's trying to impress his girl."

Fred made a face at them, despite wishing it was true, "She's not my girl. She's my best friend."

His sister smiled at him, "Fred, in the 12 years that I've been under the same roof as you, you had never ever smelled this nicely."

Molly came bustling in from the kitchen, hanging her apron on the hook by the entrance, placing her hands on her hips as she looked around for anything that might've needed some finishing touches.

Taking a deep breathe, she said, "The scent of cinnamon is a nice touch, though I have no idea how you lot did it seeing as you can't use magic."

The younger Weasleys tried to hold in their laughter as if their whole lives depended on it while Fred's turned into the same shade as his crimson sweater. Despite finding the whole ordeal amusing, George clapped a hand on his twin's shoulder and said with a tone of solemnity,

"Some secrets are just not meant to be revealed mother dearest."

The matron rolled her eyes in amusement, praying that despite their shenanigans, the twins never lose their touch of whimsy.

The faint roar of an engine suddenly made itself known, along with the muffled but animated chatters of the additional occupants of the Burrow.

Molly rushed to open the door, saying something along the lines of not expecting them to be here this early.

"Oh Y/N! Hermione! It's good to see you girls again!" Molly pulled each of the Granger children in a hug before turning to their parents, "Thank you for letting the girls stay over again."

Mrs. Granger gave a soft chuckle, "We should be thanking you, Molly! You and Arthur take such good care of our girls, I never seen them as happy as when they're here."

Mr. Granger appeared, lugging both his daughters' trunks and placing them by the doorstep.

"We were even able to plan a second honeymoon." He declared as he wrapped an arm around the waist of his flustered wife while his daughters groaned in disgust.

A familar mischievous grin appeared from behind Molly as slyly as the Cheshire Cat would. Slipping between Molly and the door, he immediately engulfed you in a tight hug, feelings the air in your personal space with the three scents you always associated with him:

Cinnamon, firework gunpowder, and chocolate.

Even when he pulled away from the hug, he kept an arm looped around yours before nodding in regards to your parents.

Your father, who was first skeptical at the possible influence the twins would have on you and who now adored them — especially Fred, clapped him on the shoulder, "Nice to see you again chap!"

The ginger stood up straighter, taking on an air of a bodyguard as he jokingly saluted your father, "I'll take good care of her, sir!"

After exchanging a few more pleasantries, Hermione and Y/N gave their parents a hug before they headed into the car and drove off.

You hadn't noticed when Ron had arrived beside Fred because now, the two brothers had taken each of your trunks respectively to bring up to their little sister's room.

Your younger sister gently elbowed you before whispering, "You look like you slept with a hanger in your mouth."

Elbowing her back, you protested, "Oh shut up. I'm just happy to be here."

"Uh huh."

💌

You almost choked on the water you were drinking as Fred told you the story of how he and George were almost successful in locking Percy inside a pyramid.

"Ironically, I'm not kidding!" Fred said through his own laughter, "He literally did the ritual dance, step by step, exactly how George and I dictated it to be."

Your stomach was starting to hurt from laughing so much, "Oh Merlin! What I would've given to witness that!"

"It's a shame, really." Fred agreed, tucking a stray piece of hair behind your ear like he always did, "We would've had so much fun."

"You mean caused a lot of chaos?"

"Same thing."

The cushions on the couch slightly bounced as Ginny took a seat next to you, seeming to glare at her older brother.

"Now, what's got your wand in a twist?" Fred asked.

She crossed her arms over her chest and gave a huff, "You're hogging Y/N."

He gasped dramatically, looking between you and Ginny, "Am not!"

"You haven't left her side since she got here!"

"Not my fault she loves my company!"

"She's my friend too, you know!"

"She's my best friend."

Eventually, you failed at holding back your laughter at the two, "Okay. Okay. You don't need to duel for my attention."

Ginny turned at you with a pout, "You promised a girls' night when you come here."

"Okay then, a girl's night it is." You said.

"Oh! How will I ever survive without your company!"

Before leaving to go upstairs with Ginny (who was sticking her tongue out at her in victory), you leaned forward and ruffled his hair.

"Sweet dreams Freddie, I'll see you tomorrow!"

You had turned your back after saying this, missing the opportunity to see Fred visibly sigh as he cheeks tinged pink, sinking into the pillows as if his soul had contentedly ascended to cloud nine.

George suddenly scoffed from the corner of the room, presence forgotten since the past hour and a half, "Smitten."

"Oh sod off!" Fred retorted, throwing a pillow in his twins' direction.

💌

"When do you guys think Harry'll come?" Ginny asked, shyly peeking over the Witch Weekly magazine she had been flipping through while waiting for her nails to dry.

You looked up from the work you were doing on sister's nails, meeting her eyes both of you suppressed a smile that might scare Ginny away.

"I tried asking mum but she says she's not sure." She added.

"Well," Hermione mused, being the only one out of the three to have the means to reach out to Harry, "in the last letter I received, we talked about meeting in London before the term ends but we haven't actually set a date yet."

Ginny sighed dramatically, dropping the magazine next to her spot on the floor, "Fine. Hogwarts it is then."

"You say that like you've just been sentenced to Azkaban." Hermione said.

"That's preferable to spending another year with Ronald."

The three of you laughed as you reached over to wiped the small smudge on Ginny's thumb.

The youngest girl examined her now colored fingernails with a pleased smile, "Girls' night again tomorrow?"

You mirrored her smile, "Every night is a girls' night."

Hermione rolled her eyes, failing to hide the same smile on her lips, "You two are trying to turn me into a delinquet."

"Am not." Ginny countered.

Your sister nodded towards you, "She's already one."

"How couldn't she be? Constantly around two menances."

"Excuse me?" Shaking your head as you laughed, "I'm sitting right here."

A few hours or so later, sleepiness was about to overcome each of your eyes. You excused yourself to go to the bathroom.

After brushing your teeth and washing your face, you slowly pulled the bathroom door closed behind you. Careful not to wake anyone with a sudden bang.

Making your way up the stairs, you saw someone waiting outside of Ginny's room. It wasn't until you took a couple steps further that you realized who it was.

Fred stood there, a hand hovering in the air near the wooden door, before it was brought back down with a sigh. There was something in the way he bit his lip and his brows were furrowed that you didn't recognized.

For the first time in the 5 years that you had been around Fred Weasley, he was actually nervous about something.

"Fred?" You called out, voice barely a hair above a whisper, making the poor boy jump.

"Bloody hell!" His attention was now turned towards you, eyes wide as he placed a hand over his chest, (maybe this time) in a not dramatic way.

"You scared me." He chastised, though his voice didn't hold any sort of anger.

"By saying your name?"

"You were being sneaky!"

You laughed, he always was able to make you laugh whether or not he was actually trying.

Fred nodded towards the door, "I was contemplating on whether or not it was worth losing a limb."

"Ginny threatened to hex you didn't she?" You asked.

He nodded again before adding, "To the next century, if I may add." He then reached into his pockets and brandished a medium-sized leather box.

His voice grew soft, "I forgot to give this to you earlier. But, I still haven't decided if it would really worth be hexing for or I should give to you tomorrow morning instead."

You took the box from him as tenderly and gently as you would a sacred artifact. Upon opening it, you were greeted with the quiet glimmer of pink crystal-looking heart-shaped pendant, anchored on a silver chain.

"Oh, Freddie." Your voice barely audible as you watched its glimmer under the moonlight, "It's beautiful."

"Rose quartz." He supplied, "I got it from Egypt. Thought of you when I first saw it."

Your heart fluttered in your chest, just like the way it always did ever since third year, "Oh, Freddie. You shouldn't have."

He shrugged, the smile on his lips holding something softer than smugness, "I know."

You threw your arms around him, pulling him into a hug causing his balance to falter for a moment before he wrapped his arms tightly around your waist.

"You're the best, you know?"

The smirk was evident in his tone, "Obviously. I'm brilliant."

You gently took the necklace out of its box, handing it to him, "Can you help me put it on please?"

You knew exactly what you were doing, you had watched this type of scene unfold in the rom-coms you loved. The butterflies had started to go crazy in your stomach, you were scared that you might start physically shaking.

Turning around as soon as he nodded, tingles were sent down your spine as he sweeped your hair over your right shoulder. The cool metal set your skin ablaze as he locked the clasp. Your fingers fiddled with the pendant, smooth beneath your touch as you turned around to face him,

"Thank you really. I love it so much."

He grinned, tucking his hands away in the pocket of his pyjamas, "Glad you do."

"Well," he said with a huff, "I'll leave you be for the night before we both risk the wrath of the Great Ginevra."

For a split second, his eyes flitted to the pendant now resting on your chest, as if it's been there your whole life.

"Good night Y/N/N."

"Good night Freddie."

You pushed the door to Ginny's room open, unable to keep the smile off your lips.

"Took you long enough." The redheaded girl remarked, tucked under a blanket, eyes bleary with sleep, "'Mione and I almost thought you fell asleep in the loo."

You gave no reply, trying to hide your smile as you got ready for bed. But your own sister never failed to miss a beat. She peered at you from over her book, eyes slightly squinted but you knew enough to practically see the gears turning in your head.

"Where did you get that necklace? You weren't wearing one when you left." She suddenly said.

Ginny sat up before you could even blink, eyes now wide with every ounce of alertness in her body.

"Oh blimey." Her lips were parted in awe, "Wow. I thought George was kidding."

"Who gave it to you?" Hermione asked, despite already knowing the answer.

You can feel the heat rise up to your cheeks as you fidgeted with the pendant, "Fred did."

"It's a rose quartz heart."

"I know, he told me."

"No wonder he kept on looking through shops while we were in Egypt." Ginny quipped.

Hermione and Ginny looked at each other, having a silent conversation that you couldn't quite decipher.

"Do you like it?" Hermione spoke up after a while.

You nodded, "I love it."

At this Hermione smiled, "It suits you. Brings out your eyes."

Climbing under the covers, you drifted off to sleep, vowing to yourself that you would never take the necklace off.
