Summary
Walking back to the Eastern tower, William mostly watched his feet as he balanced on the stones. Tap tap tap. He skipped across them. Childish, really, but it made him smile and that was reason enough. Something made him look up, however, a shiver in his spine. Someone was watching him.
He scanned the many windows of the palace, searching for a pair of eyes trained on him, when he spotted a girl he hadn’t seen before looking out the window of a tower, not unlike the one he now lived in. They locked eyes. He couldn’t make her out clearly from the distance, but he could see her silver hair drifting in the breeze. For a moment, they both sat there, taking in each other’s presence. He was about to call out, ask for her name, but before he could, the mysterious girl closed the shutters and rushed away. It was only then that William realized the tower he was looking at was located in the North wing. The forbidden North wing. Where no one, not even the Archmage, perhaps not even the King, was allowed to go.
Or, a fantasy revenant au where William is a mage's apprentice and Ashe is the princess trapped in the castle.

William was getting a bit sick of the zombies, really. At first it was fun, all the surviving, but at this point it was just getting old. He was doing pretty well for himself, all things considered. He had a backpack full of beef jerky, Dasani water bottles (he had no choice on the brand, unfortunately), and roadtrip puzzle books. He'd found a kickass toolbelt where he kept his weapons and some tools, and he wasn't even upset his crew had kicked him out.
Not upset at all.
In his defense, those people were practically asking to be zombie-fied.

Quick as anything, he releases his grip on Chip’s hair, and steps back. Chip falls forwards and catches himself right before he smacks his face on the ground.
Reuben has pulled another cigarette from his pocket, and is idling twirling it through his fingers. He exhales, chuckling to himself, all lightness and contempt. Nothing like he was a second ago.
“Let’s go find them, shall we, Chip?”

The wisp disappeared. And another one took its place a few feet away. This one was closer but still far enough away that William couldn’t distinguish anything about it except the blue aura of light that surrounded it and the flames that flickered and rose into the air.
It disappeared quicker this time, too quick for William to study it and try and decide what it wanted. But just as soon as it was gone, another appeared in the same pattern as the last, but instead of getting closer to William, it was getting closer to the door.
They were trying to lead him somewhere.
