And they watched as the stars quietly disappeared and solar systems grew cold. Humans turned into scavengers, finding any and all resources the corpse of the universe had to offer. With each century, it became even more apparent that the light of humanity would fade like the stars if they didn’t find their salvation. Perhaps life thriving in an ocean of blood had the answers.

His ears rang, forever taunted by the roars of protesters.
He was terrified, wings covering his body. As if it’d save him from his sins.
I'm sorry. He signed to no one in particular.
Hunger gnawed at him, he felt lightheaded and afraid. So, so very afraid.
What more could he do besides wait for the protesters to get to him? Maybe they'd end his suffering.
All of this over one simple bomb mistake.
