(You don't need to have watched star trek to understand this fic! But it helps) Grace, a teacher aboard the galaxy class vessel, the USS Hail Mary, is the only survivor of a teleportation attempt to make contact with a missing Vulcan research group on Theta-Ceti-a.
He is found by the lone survivor of the Mission (The B’leig Pey), Rock, who has been in isolation on the desolate planet for years.Grace’s mind is fractured from the teleport, and Rock is broken from the isolation.
Together they must uncover the mysterious reason for all of the gruesome death, and why the bacterium dimming the neighbouring stars isn’t affecting Theta Ceti, despite the presence of a Petrova line.The answer lies in the planet’s atmosphere.

Science is weird when Gene Roddenberry is haunting the genre.(I wrote this because Im astonished that nobody’s taking advantage of the fact that Erid is literally Vulcan in the star trek universe. Also Grace literally owns a little Enterprise figure.)

Grace was content with how his life was going. Sure, he was light years away from Earth and all the other humans. But he was alive, he had a best friend and a whole planet that cared for his happiness and well-being. He got to teach once more and had a beautiful view that was created just for him.
But he was lonely. He had Rocky and the other Eridians of course, but he could really do with a cat or something to cuddle and love. Not that anything like that was going to happen -

Grace couldn't believe it when a beetle arrived to Erid. A new crew of Eridians had been sent out on a new ship, the Blip-B, on a mission to save the three stars of the Alpha Centauri star system. It was supposed to be the first mission of many to help out neighboring stars.
But, reports had come back on the beetle. Reports of a moon in the system, covered with a thick viscous liquid with a creature resembling a human floating on the surface of the ocean. The report stated the Blip-B's crew had rescued the human and had effectively terminated the mission, racing through the system to get this human to Erid. To Grace.
The thing is, Grace knows the moon the crew reports does not exist. The Hail Mary's own scans of the journey through the system showed nothing even similar to the stray moon. And who they bring back isn't exactly human.
Or
Simon is turning into a monster on a strange planet and every day he strays further from who he was before.

As the Hail Mary’s spin drives engage and we start to accelerate, I reach towards Adrian. They hold out a hand and we come together. It still feels right.
I’m relieved to be leaving Tau Ceti. I never want to see the Blip-A again. I spent years in its silent, dead heart, and that was bad enough. But then the Taumoeba, which was supposed to save us all, devoured my fuel and left me drifting, alone and hopeless a second time.
I tried so many solutions. Nothing worked. I had failed again, after coming so close. Until one day, when I had given up, a miracle: Grace returned out of the stars, the Hail Mary whole and full of fuel. He gave up his chance to go home so that he could save Erid. I don’t understand why he still calls himself a coward.
I can’t wait to tell his planet that they sent their very best human to Tau Ceti. And then I’ll make it clear that I will never forgive them for the way they did it.

Grace, Rocky, and Adrian are on their way to Earth. They’ll need to help each other through the dangers of space travel, past trauma, and the risk that they’ll drive each other crazy before it’s over.

OR: a BloodyMary fic where Simon appears on the Hail Mary! He and Grace learn to co-exist together on the small ship, with Rocky thrown in the mix (who is suspicious a.f. of Simon). This fic is less plot-driven and more conversation-driven by the trio themselves however, there is plot! Will Grace and Simon learn to live together? Who knows! Probably. But there'll definitely be challenges along the way.
