She staggers back, sweat now properly dripping down her neck. “What was your question?” She asks Gale with a soft laugh, wheezing from exertion as she swipes her wrist over her forehead. When he doesn’t answer, she turns, catching him staring at her with his lips parted. She blushes. “What?”
“Sorry.” He says, looking away and pulling anxiously at his hair. “Thrilling isn’t it? An unexpected battle. Quite diverting, when one’s mind is in a slump. Stimulating, even.” She can’t help but smirk as he starts to spiral — that familiar tumbling stammer he gets when he’s speaking in spite of himself. “I read a book once that went into great detail about the effects adrenaline can have on one’s drive for other types of stimulation… Not that I’m—” He drops his eyes to the ground, looking properly horrified at the words coming out of him. “I mean of course I am, that’s no secret, but we’ve already established—” “For fuck’s sake, Gale. Stop.” She interrupts, laughing incredulously.“Is it the sweat?” “It’s… all of it.” He whimpers, eyes still down, waving dismissively. “The flushed cheeks, the heavy breathing...”
“And no orb on the brink of detonating.” She adds. He looks at her, jaw tightening around things left unsaid.
