"Penelope doesn’t chase after him with accusations of sleeping with a middle-school teacher, and Ruben doesn’t say anything as he walks to his car with him. It’s quiet and cold but the joy and warmth from the minutes he got with Ryland keep him satisfied. Ruben honks his horn as he passes him by. As he’s unlocking his truck, he glances up and manages to catch a glimpse of something tall and yellow by the bike rack.
