    Summary

This is where they meet: their eyes meeting over the heads of the crowd. Kremnoans. Okhemans. The people of the Holy City; the refugees of Kremnos. Mydeimos looks up and he sees blue. The color of the sky. Kephale's blue. The man cuts an imposing figure, the silhouette of his armor an announcement of his importance, his clothes fine and detailed. The Goldweaver's Deliverer, here to make a statement. Mydeimos recognizes him by blade, a large sword of fine make, hefted in one hand; and by rumors: the Goldweaver's handsome Deliverer, the charming prince of the Holy City, Okhema's most prized alpha. The perfect man with the makings of a perfect mate. An appointment with the Goldweaver is no easy feat, and everyone knows that to win over the Goldweaver, first you must win over her Deliverer.

Mydei loathes this game of push-and-pull.

    Summary

The guard took a sip of his wine. “The Crown Princess.”

Suddenly everyone averted their eyes. Phainon, clueless to what was going on, cocked her head to the side. “What about her?”

    “Have you seen her?”

Phainon shook her head. “Not yet, no.”

A girl sitting opposite of her blushed a deep, deep red. She hid her face in her hands.

“You’ll know when you see her then,” someone in the back said, their gaze faraway. “The Crown Princess. That’s the true rite of passage in Castrum Kremnos.”

Every place had its rules, its unwritten traditions - getting tangled in Goldweaver's golden threads was one for okhemans, jumping off a tall cliff was one in Bulsa. For Castrum Kremnos, though, it was having an infatuation with their own Crown Princess apparently.

Phainon had quickly found out just how troublesome it was when she became one of the personal guards of that very princess. But Phainon was a professional. She'd never let her feelings get between her and her work, right?

    Right?

    Summary

    Love kills.

There’s someone out there, a single person, who can love you; save you. For the unredeemed: flowers, blooming everywhere, sprouting from bone and flesh. Tendrils reaching out like children’s arms. Blooming from the throat, the mouth, an endless vomit of wilting, darkening petals. Clogged airways; inevitable death.

There’s a luck factor. The flowers can bloom on your arms, or legs, or forehead instead, and you will be left as some human monstrosity, but you will live. There’s medicine. Stops the growth before it wraps you in it. There’s other people’s tales, to serve as a warning: some singer with roses strewn along her mouth; a pianist gone blind, peonies blooming inside both eye sockets. So: Don’t fall in love. The person that is meant for you, the one that will allow you to exist as your whole self, already exists somewhere. Anything else is rotten. Sickness. Don’t nurture your vain hopes. Don’t cherish your feelings.

Phainon turns sixteen and his flowers are nowhere to be seen.

Or: Mydei is sick and Phainon isn't.

    Summary

“Mydei,” the man started, his eyes focused on how Mydei’s mouth moved while he went through the motions of providing care to such a wound, “may I ask of you a favor?”
    Mydei tilted his head, ‘yes.’
“I know that you may not be able to say it properly, but I want you to know my name and would like you to try anyway. I want to know what it sounds like when you say it.” He watched as Mydei’s eyes shifted from his own back to the wounds as he carefully looked over each wrist, examining to see if the scabs had torn, bled, or become infected. Thankfully, they hadn’t, and he began applying the ointment in a thick layer that smelled of lavender and mint.
Mydei clicked twice after giving it thought and applying ointment to his left wrist. ‘I don’t see why I shouldn’t try.’
“My name is Phainon.” He said it once first before he brought Mydei’s hand to his burned throat gently and enunciated each syllable carefully. “Ph-a-i-no-n.” He repeated it twice slowly, and then once again in the standard cadence he was used to, “Phainon.”
    “HKS.”
“Did you just–” Phainon pursed his lips as it registered what Mydei had actually said to him. “That wasn’t very nice.”
