How terribly fitting that one of the first things in Skyhold that should have been made ready was the War Room. They had people bleeding in the dirt outside, the keep was full of rubble, but their War Table was polished so they could arrange little figures on a bloodless map as if this was all some innocent game of chess.
She moved a figurine of a fist that would put Cullen’s suggestion into play onto the map with the jerky movements that spoke, at least to her, of a self control that was sorely fractured, and walked with a stiff and stilted gait out of the war room without another word.

His body jerked violently from the hits. At some point, his legs were in the air and his head was on the ice, and he felt it, the unnatural twist of his neck. A sharp, electric pain traveled from his spine to the rest of his body, and he knew it was bad.
"Ilya! DON'T FUCKING MOVE!" Cliff's voice sounded too far away.
"I gotcha you, man, don't move."His face appeared in his vision. He felt warm hands on the sides of his neck.
"Cliff," his voice sounded wet and broken. "My neck." He could hear the commotion around him, his team fighting the defenseman, the rest of the arena screaming. He felt his body shake every time the sharp, burning pain pulsated from that point in his neck.
"I know, man, I know." Cliff looked worried. "Wh... what do you feel?"
"Fucking hurts," he said weakly.
