Summary
“What do you want?” The faint sound of heavy, static distorted, breath echoes from the receiver. A pause, no answer. “Fine. If you’re gonna be a creep I’ll hang up.”
A shocked laugh, as if Albert is delighted by his boldness. “Wait! Wait, hold on.”
He sounds different without the mask and Finney thinks maybe being dead has freed this man more than either of them anticipated. Maybe Finney has been freed too, in more ways than one. The honesty in his voice makes Finney hesitate and he carries the phone as far as the cord will reach so he can plop down on the recliner. He feels eyes on him, as he does most of the time these days, and carelessly drapes his legs over the arm of the chair.
“Okay. So talk.”

Summary
A gun dropping into dark waters, ripples sending the mirrored stars dancing across the lake. Finney with his dirtied hands reaching for a bottle of Sprite as a dog barks upstairs, his friend’s lifeless body buried across the street. There is a ceramic mask in the costume trunk that sits in Al’s van, half-finished birdhouses and potted plants waiting for him at work. A scar that runs the length of Albert Shaw’s right forearm, gouged into him by the dangerously sharp end of a pen light shaped like a rocket ship.
Robin Arellano gave it to him out of a box of Cracker-Jacks and now it has Albert’s blood dried into the plastic.

Summary
The problem was...Finney liked it.
He liked the faint thrill of nervousness this man sent crawling up his spine, like the first time he jumped from the tire swing that hung over the lake. Disquiet and excitement. That queer smile on the mans pale painted face, the faint streaks of gray in his sandy brown hair, the bundle of black balloons fluttering about in the wind as he watched the magician pull them from the trunk of his van. Who even makes black balloons in the first place? Finney thought as he dropped a handful of Reese's Pieces in his mouth.

Summary
Stubbornly continuing to play his game despite the obstacles he faced, his inattention leads to Finney escaping right out from underneath his nose. Not about to let his captive go so easily, he pursues the boy with the utmost zeal and ends up stumbling across more trouble than he bargained for. However, he is unable to remain too upset about it after getting to use a different sort of stress-relieving punishment on the younger male.
