They turn to him, the paladin scrunching his brow in annoyance, and the words die on his tongue. Maybe it’s his head, maybe he really is going insane, but Mike knows what he just saw, and suddenly a couple other moments click into place in his brain– a place only for us, sleep alone tonight, we would not be wed were I truly a prince–
“Wait, are you guys dating?”
Will blinks at him, the same bemused expression from before on his face. Michael looks a little taken aback, as though this wasn’t what he was expecting, but for the first time all day, a hint of a smile flickers over his lips. “‘Dating’?” He echoes, almost challenging. “No, we are far past courtship. William and I were wed months ago.”
Somehow, out of all of the ridiculous, incredible, out-of-this-world things Mike has seen in the past couple hours, this one is by far the hardest for him to believe.
Out of all the insane things that have happened to Mike Wheeler, waking up in a parallel universe face-to-face with his own DND character just might take the cake.

Will felt his soul slowly leaving his body.
Time seemed suspended, as if they were trapped in a parallel reality.
Then Will started to cry. A terrible cry, sobbing and heaving. The tears streamed down like a waterfall and he didn’t even try to stop them, he just lay there, in the arms of the man he loved and who, apparently, was preparing him for the inevitable end.

“Because,” said Mike, trying to free himself from her grip by shaking his legs. She only held on tighter.
“But he’s so amazing,” said Holly, as Mike shuffled his feet slowly when he realised she would not be relinquishing her hold on him anytime soon. He dragged her into the hallway so he could put on his coat. “He’s the best, most incrediblest, most fantastic babysitter in the whole world! You should marry him!”
Or; Will Byers, well-known as an outcasted freak at Hawkins High, is Holly Wheeler’s babysitter, and perhaps the loveliest person Mike has ever met.

Ohh mg of. Oh my god oh my god oh my god. This is so incredible. I This feels so in character. Even though Mike is doing something awful you completely understand his motivation and reasoning behind it, you’re completely in his shoes and that makes u believe what he’s doing is actually okay, before remembering he’s literally cheating on his wife, so.
Also, the banter between them is SO GOOD. responsibility raccoons and non-fitting shoes.

When Will needs to get his thoughts out of his head, he writes a letter he never intends to send. He addresses it to Mike, and tells him everything.
Feeling lighter than he has in weeks and buoyed by the adrenaline of writing it all out, Will acts on an impulse and ends the letter with, "If you’d be willing to give me a chance, I’d be really happy to date you. If you’re open to trying it, please meet me in Castle Byers this Saturday at 2:00pm. I’m not asking for any promises, I’m not asking for forever or anything like that; all I’m asking is that you give me a chance. Come if you want; if not, I completely understand, no hard feelings, and I’ll never, ever mention this again."
He forgets all about the letter, and the distinctive red envelope he stowed it in, until he turns around to find it missing. Now, Will has to think of some way to stop Mike from reading that letter - or should he wait at Castle Byers on Saturday at 2:00pm and pray for a miracle?

I’ve never felt more seen by a character in a fic before. All of Shane’s experiences are genuinely so relatable to me (as someone who is currently scheduled for an autism diagnosis). I’m not even in the heated rivalry fandom. I’ve never seen or read heated rivalry. But his format is SO INSANE HOW DO YOU DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS??? This is inspiring me to dive into the world of coding on ao3. I didn’t even know this type of thing was possible.
