“Yeah, no- I get it- I don't need anything… I- It just feels way too soon, you know?” He was stumbling all over himself to try and save the situation, backtracking a little too far that it hurts.
“Mhm.” Will finds himself humming in agreement, too stunned to do anything else as he stares at the man – how his fingers twitch in the air before balling up into fists, his whole body turning to look at him again.
He wonders if it would be the right thing to do, if it really is okay to move on with his life when he knows his sister would always be stuck in one place? It's dumb, stupid to think about, he knows that, but— Will always led his life with an infuriating strong empathy, even though he was not given an ounce of that for all that he had gone through. He couldn't help but think about her, Eleven- Jane, his sister. What she would say if she saw him.
Or: Will and Mike after the epilogue, showcasing what really happened after everything; how they struggle with the feelings of guilt and shame that come with the memory of Eleven.

Mike has always been like this. Warm, affectionate, easy with touch, the kind of person who leans in without thinking and says things that sound like they could mean more if you let them. Everyone says so. Dustin says so. Lucas says so. Even El, in her quiet way, seems to understand it.
That’s just Mike.
Will tries to believe that. He really does.
But when Mike falls asleep against his shoulder, when he reaches for Will first without looking, when he says certain things like it’s nothing? Will can’t help it. He starts to wonder. To hope. To replay every moment until it feels like proof of something bigger.

It doesn’t help that the one mind he wants to read the most seems to be set to a different frequency entirely.

At twenty-two, Mike’s life is far better than he ever thought it would be. He graduated from The University of Chicago in May, after getting his diploma in English, and his entire future being at his fingertips (something he always thought he would be terrified of) feels almost exhilarating.
He loves his apartment back in Chicago and it’s horrible winters, he loves his shitty car that’s dented to hell and back. He loves sitting at his typewriter as novel ideas flow from his fingertips. He loves that he finally did it, he escaped Hawkins. It’s something he’s proud of even four years later, because he left and grew into himself and didn’t become his goddamn father like he was always terrified he would. He loves that he healed enough to willingly return to his godawful hometown for his sister’s wedding.
More than anything else, he is completely and utterly in love with Will Byers.
And that is something his best friend can never, ever know.

Since Mike and Will were dating, they decided to get ready together at Mike's place and while in doing so, Will finds out his boyfriend had gotten a new pair of jeans, and they looked a bit too good on him. Will didn't want to be one of those boyfriends who threw a fit about what their significant other was wearing, but he couldn't help the jealousy that came crawling up at the idea of everyone seeing his boyfriend in those jeans at the party. He was screwed.
