Since middle school, they had never stopped meeting in Mike Wheeler's basement to play RPGs. Mike loved creating new stories about monsters, fights, and magical powers. All of this wasn’t real in their world, of course, but in Mike’s mind, it was.
Mike had always been a freak, but there was one thing even worse than being a freak: becoming like his father, Ted Wheeler. That’s why he decided to go away for a while as soon as the holidays arrived, to develop his creative side by himself. But the Party wanted to stick with him, so he ended up going with them.
At the same time, Will Byers, his best friend, was struggling to figure out his sexuality. He wasn’t okay with it until he met a girl who was in the same situation. This friendship with Robin Buckley helped him finally be okay with himself.
I kind of mixed season 4 and 5 together. It might feel weird.

Maybe he can start with characters! That was always a good way to begin. Then he could figure out a plot for them. Mike leans back in his chair, closing his eyes and searching through his memory for inspiration.
A familiar face appears in his mind’s eye. Will. It’s been a while since he’s seen his best friend, four months and three days (not that he was counting or anything), but he still knows exactly what his face looks like. His mind relived some of his favorite memories of them together, which, for some reason, made him feel better than he’s felt in ages. Well, of course, Mike thinks to himself, it’s normal to miss your best friend.
That’s it! He’ll make a character based on Will. It’s a perfect idea; Mike knows Will better than almost anyone, so he’ll be able to make a great character. And of course, he can just change a few details so as not to arouse suspicion.
