Set in the East Midlands, the small town of Hawkins-Upon-Trent has nothing interesting going for it until the day Will Byers goes missing. His disappearance is the catalyst of a series of events that changes the town and the people in it irrevocably. People find they are stronger than they think, better people than they though they were, that their personal doctrines can change for the better and so can people. Sure, there's unimaginable horrors and monsters to face, but the person they help you become is worth it in the end, right?

Will's breath hitches, his legs squeezing subconsciously around Mike's hips.
Well, Mike thinks it's subconscious. He feels one of Will's pinkies brush his hand too, but he could be imagining that one. He rests his forehead against Will's, and like clockwork, one of Will's hands reaches up to his cheek, holding his face tenderly. "Mike?" He calls again.
Mike takes a deep breath, wanting to melt into Will's body. "Can I-" he bumps their noses.
Will shuts his eyes, but not like he's waiting for something, more like he's closing off. He leans forward tentatively, kissing Mike's cheek. "Don't." He whispers, his hand coming to Mike's hair to run through it thoughtfully. "You should start growing this out again."
Mike's heart sinks. "What?" He whispers.

It was only August 4th, but they had wanted to get settled into the apartment before classes started, so much to both of their mothers dismay, they cut their last summer in Hawkins short to in Max’s eloquent words “Fuck around and play house while the rest of us are stuck in a fucking shit hole for a month and a half” and if the comment made both of them blush red no one mentioned it.
“Do you want to do our rooms or the kitchen first because I think kitchen, it’s already 3:30 and I want to eat dinner tonight, there's a couch and a recliner in here if we want to just do the stuff out here? It can be a sleepover, like we always imagined we would have as adults when we were little kids,” Mike said, already opening one of the boxes labeled kitchen without waiting for Will’s reply.
“Sure why not, it’ll be like we’re in your basement except we have windows, and it isn’t freezing,” Will joked, opening his own kitchen box.

Mike clears his throat. "So you know what it's like," he speaks carefully, quietly, like any moment everything might fall apart. "Then you can tell me if I'm wrong or not."
Mike can't figure out why he still can't say I love you to El.
Will can't figure out why Mike's acting so strange.
