    He is not someone who has crushes. Ash doesn't pay attention to what people look like, really, let alone how he feels about those appearances.

    And even now that he's actively thinking about it, flicking through a mental catalogue of all of the people he's known, trying to figure out if any thing about their appearance makes him feel any particular way... They don't. It just, well, doesn't really matter to him.

    It doesn't feel like anything is wrong with that, but it definitely isn't what everyone else around him seems to be like.

    "I don't need anyone, really. I've got you, right Pikachu?" And his best friend, eyes dark and warm, chirps an affirmative, tail sliding across the bed to bop gently against Ash's knee, resting there with a gentle, barely-there static. (It feels like home.)
