Summary
Merlin admitted his magic to Arthur a couple weeks ago and has since been banished from Arthur's sight until he decides to give up magic forever. When Merlin senses assassins about to break into Arthur's room, he goes in with a plan to take care of it. Arthur is less than impressed with Merlin's groveling technique, but saving him from the assassins takes precedent... and solves some — if not most — of their problems.

Summary
Arthur Pendragon was never supposed to receive Excalibur.
At least, not yet.
The day before Merlin arrives in Camelot, Arthur encounters a mysterious woman at a lake who offers him a sword unlike anything he has ever seen. He doesn't know where it came from, who made it, or why she chose him. He only knows its name: Excalibur.
But there's one small problem.
Excalibur is alive.
It doesn't speak, but it has opinions. It can move on its own, communicate through gestures, and apparently has no problem throwing clothing at Arthur when he refuses to get dressed.
As Arthur tries to keep his strange new companion (and the magic surrounding it) a secret from his father, a young sorcerer named Merlin arrives in Camelot.
Arthur was already going to have enough problems becoming king.
Now he has a magical sword to deal with, too.
