Summary
Bright sunlight against snow made it hard to see. Techno kept his eyes on the ice below his feet as he climbed the steep slope at the South Pole, frigid overworld air seizing in his chest even with a scarf over his mouth.
Rocks fell on the other side of the peak and Techno heard a muffled curse.
“Phil?”
“Hiya, mate!”
A shadow fell over the ground as Techno finally made it to the top, and he blinked spots out of his vision as the heavily-bundled-up form of his friend became visible. “My co-emperor!” Techno slung an arm around Phil’s shoulders and squeezed briefly. “We’re goin’ to do beautiful things here, Phil. This world’s never goin’ to know what happened.”
Phil laughed, dark wing coming around to bop Techno in the back of the shoulder. “Glad to be here.”

There was a bakery box on the sawhorses supporting the skillsaw, with several of Phil’s coworkers gathered around it. Phil headed over, wiping plaster-covered hands on his overalls.
“Hey Phil.” Foolish held a half-eaten double-chocolate cookie studded with caramel. “There’s snacks!”
“Alright.” Phil pulled the box close. “Where’re they from?” He raised his eyebrows at the blank cardboard. “Doesn’t say.”
“They were just fucking here when we got here.” Tubbo carefully picked a few raisins out of his oatmeal spice one and then took a big bite. “Good, though.”
Phil gestured around the group. “So, not to point out the obvious, but—what if these are from a fae bakery?”
OR: Slice of life in an Urban Fantasy world, and then going home together.

The leaves in Autumn were red, and housing was situated in the branches of trees that reached into the roof of the ship. Phil left his assigned family safe inside their new home and wound his way down the staircase that wrapped around the trunk of the Ancient’s new growth.
Etoiles was on the edge of the ship, hands jammed in his pockets and staring into the fog.

Techno isn't settling well into his new school. The teachers here won't accept him just scraping by, won't accept his minimum effort, won't accept that he doesnt WANT to live up to his potential, to use his gifts, to be the best when the world has already proven being the best is never good enough
Phil just wants an even playing field, trapped in an institution that refuses to recognise his disability, unable to keep up with a curriculum he *could* understand if only he was given a fair chance
Techno accidentally: makes a friend, becomes his transcriber, realises his situation isn't as impossible as he thought, and makes a start in fixing both their problems. In that order
