Hosea smiles wryly. “You’ve got a good head on your shoulders, Mister Smith,” he says. “You know, I wish you would have joined us sooner. Could have used a reliable man like you years ago.”
Charles snorts, a rare, crooked smile crossing his face. “Nah. Don’t think you all would have liked me much back then. I sure didn’t.”
Hosea chuckles. “Well, I like you well enough now. Arthur too.”
Charles says nothing to that, but the corner of his mouth twitches upward again. “I’ll find him,” he promises.
“I know, dear boy. I know.”
A Blessed are the Peacemakers fix-it where Charles is sent to retrieve a missing Arthur Morgan and sees a bit too much of the man in the process. Hosea is furious, Dutch's world is crumbling, and Arthur is stuck in the middle. Luckily, Charles is there too.

Summary
"This kiss isn't like the others they've shared. It's slow and sweet and Arthur tastes of sweet peach and blood. Arthur doesn't open his mouth, and Charles doesn't ask him to, but the two of them get lost in the kiss, which rolls on slowly, in waves that almost remind Charles of the ocean, for what feels like eternity. Eventually Arthur pulls away for air, blissfully without coughing, and lays back, resting his head on Charles' lap.
"I love you." He mutters, as heavy sleep begins to drag his eyes shut. Charles doesn't respond, but he does drag his fingering through Arthur's hair, pressing a soft kiss against his forehead and Arthur falls asleep."

Charles parts his lips just a moment and Arthur goes limp. It ain't right. Charles ain’t kissing back. Arthur opens his eyes and Charles’ are blown wide. His lips ain’t parted in invitation, but surprise. Arthur’s an idiot. Got this all wrong.
“Forgive me.”
Charles is looking at Arthur, taking in his pale pink face and his petal thin skin. The dark circles around his bloodshot eyes. Charles huffs softly, and his lips pick up in the most infinitesimal smile. His gaze drops to Arthur’s lips.
He’s gonna kiss me.
“No.” Arthur jerks away. Not like this.Charles pities him. Gonna give him what he wants because he’s a damned man. Give a dying man an IOU; he ain’t gonna ever collect. But Arthur ain’t dead yet. He’d have to live knowing he weren’t really wanted. Loved, sure, but not the way Arthur aches to be loved.
Just once in his life.

“...What’chu mean?” he could hear Arthur take a step towards him and into his personal space. Space Charles wouldn’t — or ever had — let anyone breach. But somehow with Arthur, that personal space became shared, something that was for the two of them, the loss of facade not granted to anyone else.
Charles took a breath that felt like it was leaving his body weaker than before. Composure.

Summary
Neither of them knows how to love like those happy couples they see in towns, with gentle hands clasped together and soft-spoken words shared between sweet kisses. And Charles thinks that’s okay for neither of them holds that gentleness that makes up a ‘happy couple.’ They’re not good, nor bad, but merely suspended somewhere above the middle ground, dangling over the idea of normalcy, of the arguments that lead to silence. The longing that leads to loving.
They’re not normal or always happy, but they’re together. And, when Charles thinks about it, when he’s reminded that Arthur will always come back because he’s stubborn like that, always aiming to beat away the apprehensive thoughts of Charles’ frustration with rough kisses and bruising grips, he likes it better this way. Their way.
Or: Arthur leaves after an argument and Charles is left to wonder if he'll come back, and if he does, will he come to Charles? But he does, he always does, because Arthur can't imagine being anywhere that isn't Charles' side.

Summary

The attack on the Northern Water Tribe goes differently, Aang and the ocean spirit don’t destroy the entire Fire Nation fleet, only most of them.
Zhao escapes, taking Sokka and a few other Water Tribe men as prisoners. Knowing Sokka is traveling with the Avatar he gets sent to Zhao’s “special prison camp” that is hidden near the Earth Kingdom colonies.
Sokka gets a taste of the real war, not the war that he thinks he knows from traveling with the Avatar. While Zhao’s prisoner, he struggles to survive the inhuman conditions. Alone and thought to be dead, he feels himself slowly losing hope.
Seeing a familiar face brings back his hope, even if that face is the scarred Prince of the Fire Nation.
Sokka and Zuko come together to survive and end up depending on each other for a lot more than they ever thought possible.
