A handful of years after defeating Vecna, Will is an art student, living with Jonathan, who's struggling with the success of his first film, in New York City when newly appointed health Professor Steve Harrington is suddenly moving in with them after receiving the new job.
To make matters worse, Will is still pining for his childhood crush who is attending a University for Neuroscience...in Canada, and he can't help but suspect the boy in question might hate him.
Mike Wheeler is living alone in Canada, and it might just be his ticket out of misery when he spots a familiar name on the poster of a new film rising in fame.

“Dustin? Why are you calling me at one in the morning?” Steve slurs, annoyed and still mostly asleep.
Dustin doesn’t answer right away. Steve sits up in bed and repeats, “Dustin. Why are you calling me at-”
“I’m sorry,” the voice on the other end of the phone is almost unrecognizable. It’s quiet and panicked and it gives Steve the feeling that something is wrong. All the annoyance melts away and is replaced by worry.
"Hey," he says softly. "What's wrong?"
"I...I don't know..."
