Three months after the events of the opera, Christine and Raoul try traveling somewhere sunny after Christine is diagnosed with hysteria. When they run afoul of a kidnap for ransom scheme, a would-be rescue results in all characters and some newcomers being stranded on a rock island.
Story told in flashbacks to the opera events, forced proximity on a tiny island, and imperial geopolitics.
Canon divergent backstories and general text (Erik is very much not French, and no demonization of Persian or Romani cultures). Nonlinear retelling/deconstruction of Leroux scenes, including the mirror, Angel, unmasking, sideshow, and Persia. This story is preoccupied with how systems treat and often dehumanize people, and what humans can truly be when society is stripped away.
While this is very much “Erik and Christine are basically shared souls” they aren’t the only relationships that matter.
And secret, hidden quotes and clues to something, lots of religious and tarot references.
The draft of this is completed. I am only revising and posting updated chapters. It does have an end point, both in the text and the ergodic metatext.

Enter ordinary college students Dan Heng, March 7th, and Caelus, who agree to befriend Sunday in attempts to hopefully start deprograming him. It may be an uphill battle, full of Small Group meetings, evening worship, coordinating around their single working car, and hiding their relationship, but the three are up for the task.

The story is not primarily a plot about a woman, a robot, and a dead sister. It is a machine for taking those figures apart until they are operations rather than characters.
Orva Keel is a semiotician who rents a defective household robot. The unit speaks in the voice of her dead sister Mara—a Section Gray cyberneticist who built a military signal generator that did not shout slogans so much as teach phone nets, chip factories, and ad-copy to *want*. Orva has a stolen schematic in a coat lining. The robot wants her, the key, and the old hierarchy.
What follows is a citywide infection of language: kilns that fire sentences into civic chips, a mothballed lab that still thinks Mara is at her desk, a factory that learns to hesitate, a mesh that cannot finish “The city loves you back.” Orva and the renamed remainder, Vell, demolish the sister-simulacrum in loops instead of exorcising it. Students turn grief into committees. Hygiene tries to rinse the weather. A later machine, HARMONY, patches the lisp and calls it care.
The story is science fiction about propaganda as infrastructure, desire as routing, and love that refuses to become a form you can file.
