Summary
Charles had replaced his earphones and closed his eyes, swaying his feet as he listened to his Walkman contraption. Edwin allowed his gaze to linger for a moment, appreciating Charles’s lovely hands. He desperately wished to hold them.
Just as he had desperately wished to kiss Charles in 1994, even before he had realized as much.

Summary
Charles didn’t want to wash his henna off. It was so pretty, and so purposeful. Nothing short of art, really, but it was art that Mariyam insisted had to go. Paul still hadn’t come back – a ‘lucky break,’ she said – and she had plenty of time to wash Charles’s hands off to their original state. As she did, Charles tried to cheer himself up. He’d got to put the pretty pictures on his hands, even if it was just for a few ticks. That was a miracle in itself, wasn’t it. And…
“When I’m all grown,” he told Mariyam, “I’m going to have loads of tattoos, and I’m never going to wash them off.”
Mariyam chuckled. “That is your choice,” she said, “and I think you will make good decisions about what tattoos to get. I cannot wait to see them."

“Considering that we have purchased a specialized bed for…. certain nighttime activities-” Edwin cleared his throat – “I think it safe to say that we are not going to forget one another’s visage the moment we place our heads upon the mattress, regardless of the particular sheets we choose.”
“Good point, that.” Charles reached out to take Edwin’s hand. “Purple it is, then. But maybe-”
“I am not sleeping on neon sheets, Charles.”
“You aren’t sleeping at all,” Charles pointed out.
Edwin held up a stiff palm in a gesture of finality. “I am not fucking on neon sheets either.”

Summary
Edwin spun toward Charles. “Do you need something?”
“I… yeah. You like comics, do you?”
“My tastes are irrelevant,” Edwin said in a practiced tone. “Yours are far more interesting to me. What would you like to read, or watch?” He raised a brow.
“I… whatever comic you like, yeah? I’m a comic fan, too. Love the ones with detectives, like… Watchman, yeah? Those are my favorites.”
Edwin’s eyes gleamed in a way that made Charles want to continue, but he was speechless.
Edwin clicked his tongue. “That is excellent news. I am knowledgeable about that genre; in fact, mystery is the genre that I specialize in."

Summary
Today felt different. They'd been having sex for a little while now, and so far, most of the time it had been gentle, careful despite their eagerness to get at one another; they'd still been figuring out how they worked together, unsure how to be good for each other.
But now, as Edwin hastily clambered off Charles' lap and pulled him up and through their games closet into the adjacent room, there was no trace of that lingering insecurity. And Charles himself certainly didn't feel any when he grabbed Edwin's waist again and drew him in for a deep, filthy kiss.
Charles and Edwin spend a heady afternoon together, and Charles marvels at just how comfortable they have become with each other.

Summary
Written to a (long ago, now) kinkmeme prompt: Charles touches a cursed object that allows him to hear Edwin's thoughts. At first he was going to tell Edwin immediately, but then he hears the loving things Edwin thinks about him, and he just wants to listen for a few days because he's never heard someone "say" things like that about him.
Snippet:
He heard Edwin’s rich and affectionate chuckle, not out loud but in his mind, and realized all at once how aggressively he was fidgeting, the couch beneath him rattling. He jerked to a stop, making an embarrassed face and wondering if he should apologize for being so distracting when Edwin was trying to work. But, there goes the hummingbird, thought Edwin, a quick and simple phrase wrapped in a hundred soft layers of affection. Charles sat still, feeling his partner’s fond thoughts more than hearing them.
But it was more than just fondness, or even love–it was comfort Edwin was exuding. A gentle, abiding, and complete familiarity, the kind that brings safety and healing. It was hearth, bread, and blanket.
