Doch hier war sie in der Fremde, zusammen mit lauter Leuten, die ihr genauso fremd waren wie die Gegend. Dazu noch gefangen. Ein Trost war: Die besten Ortskenntnisse sowie langjährig perfektionierte Routine hätten ihr in dieser speziellen Situation ohnehin nicht viel gebracht.
Maries Bahnfahrt zu ihrer Verwandtschaft endet in selten gekanntem Winterchaos. Noch dazu bleibt der Ersatzzug, den sie notgedrungen nehmen muss, mitten in der Landschaft liegen. Das Wetter und ein Stromausfall verhindern die Weiterfahrt. An Bord gibt es einen medizinischen Notfall. Zudem wird ein Mitreisender tätlich angegriffen. Auf unbekanntem Terrain gefangen, setzt Marie alles daran, den Hintergründen dieser seltsamen Vorfälle auf die Spur zu kommen. Dabei ahnt sie lange nicht, wie weitreichend das Ausmaß wirklich ist.
