Mydei, the roommate who’d been sharing a dorm with Phainon at their university for over seven months now, was still a complete enigma. The roommate he’d been existing in close proximity to for over half a year. The roommate Phainon definitely didn’t have a hopeless crush on.
Definitely not. That wasn’t a relevant part of this situation at all.
Whatever Phainon’s extremely confusing feelings were about the matter, Mydei had remained mysterious despite Phainon’s best efforts to get to know him. Mydei had remained out of reach.
At least, he had up until the day Phainon walked into the kitchen and found him having an existential crisis.

Zuko was probably more involved in the gossip around the palace than he had any right to be.
It’s not his fault, it’s really not. It’s just that sometimes he’s sitting in the kitchens (the best place to get the gossip) drinking tea and trying to relax for once, and some of the kitchen staff will start gossiping where he can still hear them. He doesn’t really try to listen in; it’s not his place and he won’t judge the staff based on whatever rumors are running around, but Spirits is it interesting. He tries not to listen too much, or get too invested in it though. Gossip is gossip after all, and rumors hardly ever turn out to be true.
But Zuko absolutely needs to know if Maya from the laundry room broke up with her piece of shit boyfriend.
Or, 5 times Zuko got invested in/meddled in palace gossip, and 1 time he was the subject of the gossip.

Sanji had been waiting for about fifteen minutes now, which was too long, when Zoro only lived five minutes away. Which meant he’d either gotten lost or fallen back asleep. Sanji hoped it was the former.
If Zoro had fallen back asleep, then Sanji would have to deal with his stupid emotions on his own, which was something he didn’t want to do.
He supposed he could’ve called Usopp. Or Nami. They had cars, they’d come. But Sanji didn’t want them to see him like this, and if he was being truly honest, didn’t even want Zoro to see him like this—but out of everyone, Zoro felt like the safest bet.
Zoro was something guaranteed and normal—something familiar. He was always around Sanji these days, the two of them hanging out with each other when the rest of the gang couldn’t. He also wasn’t the type to look down on Sanji, had always insisted that they were equals. The rest of the gang would’ve looked at him in pity or something akin to that.
With Zoro, Sanji knew he was in good hands because Zoro knew him like the back of his hand and wouldn’t do anything to upset him, even unintentionally.
Or, Sanji has the worst day possible and immediately goes to Zoro for help.

Zoro and Sanji don’t say a word to one another for an entire week, and it isn’t by design. Sanji eventually notices and decides it’s high time they do something about it. Zoro is one hundred percent onboard, especially when he gets to see Sanji’s smile in the process.
