Sam, catching on, asks, “Can you pull him out?”
The stare Jack levels them with is peaceful. “No,” he says, and Dean feels the earth shift beneath his feet for one very long second before Jack sets his gaze squarely on him, his eyes piercing. “But you can.”
(A post-finale fix-it fic where Dean doesn't die. Instead, he pulls Cas out of the Empty. Eventually, after the reunion, there's romance and a road trip, but not specifically in that order.)

Zachariah shows Dean The End.
While his visit is temporary, it leaves Dean shaken and wracked with guilt, after he watching his future self send Castiel to his death. Only, Castiel dies willingly for Dean, and apparently it's because of love. Desperate to prevent Cas from meeting a similar fate, Dean decides to save Castiel, making sure he never falls in love with Dean. It should be an easy enough task, because it's not like Cas understands what he's feeling for Dean, and it's not like Dean feels anything more than friendship for Cas. Right?
When what should be a standard case turns out to be something far more powerful, both Dean and Cas are forced to confront their fears and unspoken feelings, which goes about as well as you'd expect.

Kinda sounds like something Chuck would cook up. Just you and me. No one else. I mean, really?” He scoffs, slumping.

In which some people come back, Cas learns to be human (the right way, this time), Dean Winchester finally realizes that good things do happen, and they all get their version of the post-credits, apple-pie life they deserved.

Summary
Hours before Marissa Schurr’s body is found, Hannibal asks Will out on a date, which Will accepts, though they both agree to keep their relationship a secret. At the scene, Will comes to the realization that Hannibal is the Copycat, and confronts Hannibal. Will thinks the man is being honest about all of his kills that follow. That is—until Will realizes, months later, that Hannibal is also the Chesapeake Ripper.
Dealing with the knowledge the man he loves is more sadistic and cruel than he previously thought, being in a closeted relationship, and experiencing loss, illness, injury, and betrayal, Will finds himself descending into a dark place.
Ironically, Hannibal is the only person that can hold all of Will’s pieces together.
