Summary
Etho had found in the depths so many things.
It was the lowest point of the Under-City, metaphorically and literally. He'd been running jobs for the mobsters that controlled this area for as long as he could remember, another gutter rat trying to make it to his next meal. He wasn't above playing with someone's naive ideas of empathy, he didn't feel bad for manipulating others to pity him as just a helpless kid. A runaway redstone pallet leads him to meet Doc, a creeper mutant with a genius complex and enough sarcasm and bravado to make Etho want to try stabbing him again. The two of them were in direct competition, and Etho hadn't signed on for things getting any more difficult than they already were.
He'd found a lot in the depths. Scraped up enough to survive here. He hadn't been looking for a purpose to put his life on the line, but then again... wasn't that how the very best things were? After all, he hadn't been looking for love, either. Yet here it was.{In which Etho wants to stab anything and everything, Doc's sailing a boatload of trauma topped by a genius complex, nobody is getting out of this intact, and yeah, it was bad, but if it hadn't been bad, they wouldn't have made it out of the dark.}

Summary
Etho does something marginally stupid and finds himself changed.
The universe only unravels from there. But one way or another, it will find a way to put itself back together.
Or: Actions, reactions, and the associated consequences regarding a series of unexpected, and highly coincidental interconnect events...
It's almost as though this wasn't pure coincidence.
(I recommend reading this series in order, as the fics build off each other and are all interconnected)

Summary
The depths were always the loudest places.
To Etho, with his fox ears, it was always the hiss and grind of machinery, the buzz of electric lights, and the hum of redstone circuitry. This was the place he'd found his strengths, though, connections that now spanned all the under-city. He's walking back from checking in on one of his depots when he notices a chip in the wall. And isn't it strange?
How so much has changed, and so many years have gone by...and yet when he peers down the narrow alleyway, it looks exactly the same as it did that day. Like a snapshot frozen in time. From twenty years ago, when he'd seen colorful feathers and faces hardened to the hurt of a world he was far too familiar with...to the point where perhaps they were already broken.But if he left them there, then he'd be admitting he'd shattered as well, and that was the last thing he could bear to allow as the truth. And if it wasn't true for him, then it wouldn't be for these kids, either.
{In which Etho picks up some strays, Doc is not ready to be a father, the avian trio is weighing skepticism against pancakes, and all of them broke a long time ago...together though, maybe they can pull together something new.}

Summary
The under-city wasn't exactly the nicest place, that much Scott was well aware of.
He knew Jimmy still went down there, to visit his dearest friends or his adoptive parents. He also knew there was a lot he didn't understand about that place, the way it operated, how it looked, how it fundamentally shaped Jimmy to have come from the depths of a society below his feet. The man adored the open sky in large part because he'd grown up in the dark, right? He also knew Jimmy's family and friends down there were...shall we say, unique. A cast unlike any he'd ever met, who were unable to pass as humans and stroll the streets beneath the blue sky in disguise. Scott also knew it wasn't his place to ask tough questions, considering how complicated Jimmy's feelings on the under-city obviously were. He's taken things as they've come with Jimmy, and that's how he'll stay.
Color him surprised when Jimmy invites him to a family dinner, with plans to meet his other friends along the way.{In which Scott is bracing for some serious shovel talk, Jimmy wants everyone to realize he's a grown adult already, Pearl and Grian are never ones to pass on a golden opportunity, Etho wins a bet, and so, so, so many others get a word in.}
