this story was recommended out of every corner of the internet, pdf passed around like some sort of dying book that needs to be saved and remembered, and boy do i understand them. i will admit: the premise itself made me quite reluctant to read it, because I do not want to read about grief, it is one of those emotions I would not seek out voluntarily but at some point after hearing about it again and again I gave up and decided to give it a chance, even though i knew it will probably make me miserable.
and I am so thankful that people were unabashedly praising it and it got into my hands again and again until I've decided to finally seal my fate. beautiful writing, like a spider's silk on a tree, just sticking to your brain and leaves this slight nausea feeling when you touch it. exceptional portrayal of grief and coming home to yourself — it did make me miserable but I'm okay now. and the whole story is just so... dreamy and sad and hopeful, maybe it did happen in limbo.p.s. I loved the subtle references to the universe of eames and his arthur, made my ears perk up as if a dog hearing their favorite words. thank you, author, I am on pilgrimage to see the rest of your works and bookmarks!

as a person who has never played pathologic, the world was very confusing at first. I was mainly looking for mindhunter fics and found this beast of work. I was reading it as an original story with a sprinkle of familiar characters and boy did it deliver. you don't have to understand everything straight away or at all, really. the answers are not presented to you, just live in this weird reality of things that simply happen, accept it end enjoy. the writing is so vivid and strong, I have never read anything quite like this. one of my favorite stories of this year.

beautiful work. it's hard to find resentful angry arguments with an established couple, especially as sweet as hollanov, and this was a breath of fresh air. the way they would dig at each other. when I was reading the tlg, something about ilya's behavior seemed too mellow for me, and with this fic I finally understood what. I was seething with anger on his behalf, mad at the situation he found himself in by leaving Boston and moving, I assume that I would have similar emotions, even though it was his choice to make.

reread
every time I read this particular piece of trilogy I cry like a baby. it makes me tear up every. single. time. the letters bucky is writing, his yearning, his worries, his messages on lighters, everything is just so heavy and prominent, because you know the path we are going with, you already know the future.
this fic, I have realised, is also the one that reawakens my love for the pairing every single time I forget about it and switch on to something else. thank you, writers, so much for everything you have done

it just shows you how much therapy actually helps. i've never being against it, vaguely tiptoing on the idea that I support it all in all, but this was so well researched and described that it made me truly believe in it.
so realistic, and raw, and complicated — its going to be my forever comparison to anything vaguely similar (I'm already noticing it in myself, reading different fics in between the chapters)
also, I found it quite hard and frustrating to get in at first, thinking its simply some kind of torture porn or pretentious dramatics, but its life at its worst and at its best, it's humans doing stupid and mature things
another topic — Sharon, Winnie, other characters as well, really. but mostly i want to talk about Sharon; i don't know if its me being grown emotionally, if its the fantastic never-to-be-repeated writing approach to her, or if its my acceptance of the fic being as a default "memoir" so whatever comes is natural, but i have never found such an acceptance towards a character that is romantically and sexually linked to one of the main characters and doesn't cause even a stinge of annoyance from me as a reader. I'm betting on all three.“I wouldn’t go back and change anything. What we have now is built on the path we took to get here, and I don’t regret any of it.” I read once in another good fic about emotionally stunted men and fuck everyone if it doesn't ring true to what those two went through. they kind of HAD TO go through all of this, otherwise they wouldn't end up being HERE
phenomenal writing striking you with the characters' most heartbreaking and adequate reactions and thoughts I've ever read on. I will never read anything that pulled me in this deep and affected me the way it did throughout

I would give away anything to see this adapted to the screen. it was described so vividly and in character. yes yes yes, Ilya, unabashedly stupefied with jealousy, trying so hard to express what he is feeling without showing his buried feelings. even though I like the original idea of Ilya stopping sleeping with other people all on its own, this scenario just awakes something in me; cold unfazed people being jealous and not afraid to admit it

I have never been happier to read a hate speech in my life. Most of the time when I don't like something I just don't give a shit about it and move on with my life — but the amount of praise this book got just didn't sit right with me. And I finally understood why.
one of my favorite passages from there:
"What this means is: typically the job of original fiction is to create characters readers care about – even if what we care about is their downfall. The job of good fanfiction is to be faithful to characters readers already know and care about – it needs to be ‘in character’ or ‘IC’. However, the job of fanfiction is not to create investment in characters. You’re reading fanfiction, after all – you bring your investment with you.
So when I say ‘this feels like fanfiction [derogatory]’ about a novel, typically what I mean is: this author does not act like it’s their job to create characters I care about."
