“Put us down, whoever you are!” the child shouted.
“Chao-chao!”
The lights switched back on with a hiss, and she screamed. “Metal Sonic?!?”
Metal Sonic beeped shrilly at her.
“We’re not going back to Doctor Eggman!! Put us down!”
… What is a “Doctor Eggman?”
“Hey, what’s going on in there?” Chris’ voice crackled over Metal Sonic’s earpiece.
Metal Sonic beeped again, this time punctuated by an annoyed buzz. Did Chris forget already that this unit was not capable of vocal speech?
Metal Sonic gripped the child and her pet tighter, being careful not to hurt them with its sharp claws (organic lifeforms were so delicate), and continued to speed through the corridor, no longer caring if the security cameras spotted them.

“I hate when you guys act like–” Chris cuts himself off with a groan.
Buck and Eddie frown and look at each other “Like what?”
“Like you’re–“ he huffs in frustration.
“What, Chris?”
“Like you’re a married couple!” he blurts out “Like you need each other before making any major decisions regarding me just because you’re so codependent, like you… ugh, just stop! I don’t need you ganging up on me” and with that he slams the door shut.
Teenagers are complicated. When Buck and Eddie won’t allow Chris to go to a certain party, he ends up saying something that sends Buck and Eddie into a spiral. More so when everybody seems to agree with him.

He didn't want to.

“Buck, I don’t want to upset you,” he said. “But can you feel this?” Eddie’s eyes gestured down at his arm. Buck followed along the bandages, expecting to see some sort of spot of red or maybe an odd-angled turn. Instead his heart rose and fell too fast as he realized that since they’d been talking, Eddie hadn’t just had his hand on his shoulder. His other was delicately wrapped in Buck’s exposed fingers, starkly white even against the bedding. Buck tried to move them, wanting so badly, even with all this and even as much as it could give him away, to curl back.
They didn’t move.

After a spiral, Buck attempts the unthinkable. Eddie helps him recover, but his lasting injuries present new challenges that jeopardize his career. Now he has to get his mental health in order, face potentially leaving the firehouse, and all while being completely and totally in love with his best friend.Series

Eddie rounds the corner, and sure enough, lying on the hardwood is Buck, forearm draped quite cinematically across his forehead in an Oh, Woe is Me imitation. His ungainly limbs are sprawled all across the floor—an aggrieved starfish.
He looks up at Eddie from beneath furrowed brows. “I’ve been wounded,” he grumbles.
“Oh, my God, Buck.” Eddie’s instantly on his knees. He’s pretty sure something pops on his way down. “What happened? Where does it hurt? Talk to me.” The line of questioning might be overkill, but he’s gathering clues.
His eyes dart around the space and take stock of their surroundings, trying to ascertain the source of the injury. He spies a faint red spot on the dining room’s doorjamb. About four feet below it is Theo. One fist is pressed guiltily over the toddler’s mouth, and his bottom lip wobbles perilously. He’s twisting the toe of one of his Paw Patrol sneakers into the other.

Eddie stared at him.
Buck stared back.
The refrigerator hummed. The monitor hissed faintly. Eddie could hear his own pulse, which seemed dramatic and unhelpful.
“What?” Eddie said.
Buck looked down, then back up. “Not like. I mean, legally. For Theo. For the stability thing.”
Eddie’s mouth had gone dry.
Buck kept talking. He did that when he was nervous. Built a whole staircase of words and then tried to jump down it. “I know it sounds insane. I know. And I’m not asking because I’m freaking out. I mean, I am always a little bit freaking out, but that’s not why. I’m asking because if I had to pick someone to have legal standing with Theo, someone who already shows up and knows him and knows me, it would be you.”
Eddie said nothing.
Buck’s face tightened. “You can say no.”
“I know.”

Buck was concerned to put it mildly. Ever since Eddie had arrived to work (late mind you) he had been… in a mood? Angry? Upset? Annoyed? Buck couldn't really describe what his best friend was feeling because there seemed to be too much going on, but he was currently watching said best friend working out some of his emotions onto a poor old punching bag and wondering what the hell was going on.

Eddie finds out he's a carrier during a routine check-up and is pissed at his parents for hiding it from him. For lying to him. He turns up to work pissed, and Buck is more than a little concerned about his buddie. When Eddie reveals that he is a carrier to him, though... well, let's just say that some idiot4idiot behaviour ensues when Buck thinks Eddie is pregnant from someone else, and Eddie has his sexuality crisis and abandons work even though he was in fact late for his shift. Followed by a first kiss in the rain, lots of family fluff, future pregnant Eddie, and some good food for verse4verse truthers. Hopefully. And yes, I really do think that chapter one is the funniest thing I have ever written in my life.

Some storylines felt unfinished. Some choices didn't make sense to me. Some characters deserved conversations, consequences, and growth that never made it onto the screen.
This fic is my personal Director's Cut of 9-1-1 Season 9, starting after Episode 10. Everything I don't rewrite remains as aired; everything I do rewrite reflects my own interpretation of where the story could have gone instead.
This isn't an attempt to "fix" canon. It isn't meant to be better than the show, or worse than the show. It's simply mine.

He had told himself it was because Buck was always applying chapstick, because he was always talking, so the air was always drying them out. He had told himself that the physics and biology of it all was what fascinated him. Tonight, he doesn’t know what he’s fascinated by. Is it the fact that Buck’s lips were on his own? Is it the fact of how much force Eddie put behind that kiss? Is it the fact that he can’t stop thinking of it as a kiss rather than the life-saving act that it was? He has to call Buck.
