Summary
Gio had fallen into their lives at a point where the safety net had more holes than threads to hold. He was young, had the signs of a life hard won and fought through, but he tried. Absorbed absolutely anything his family would give him, even when it was nothing at all. Dark eyes, taking in any and all of the light he could just to find himself.
It was a tragedy in three parts just to watch him thrive off wavering candlelights and embers, wandering around the halls like a detective finding hints of some past crime.
Mikey squares himself. Finds that thread left in him that’s farther and farther away every day. Gio deserves the light, he can make some for him. He can.
Or: a series of standalone oneshots about Giorgio Hamato finding a home, getting adopted, and being loved back--not necessarily in that order. Set in both timelines.

A vial dropped onto the floor of the console room as Rose bolted in, and quickly grabbed hold of it.
She held it up to the light to read the instructions on the neat, glossy sticker of the vial.
She could not read it. Blinking, she tried again. The words were now incoherent, morphing into… circular patterns, which seemed incredibly familiar. Where had she seen them before she could not remember.
Turning her head, she saw the post-it notes tacked onto the side of the TARDIS monitor.
They looked exactly the same.
Rose looked at the medicinal instructions again as her stomach twisted in worry.
The translation matrix was no longer working.
She was looking at Gallifreyan.
And the last time the translation matrix failed, the Doctor was very, very ill from regeneration sickness.
