Summary
Patrol goes wrong. It’s not even one of the too big missions Tim normally insists on sending himself on alone, just a frightened teenage boy at the end of his rope trying to rob a convenience store. The kid's eyes are huge when he accidentally pulls the trigger, when the gun fires, when Tim collapses, when from the batmobile Bruce listens as he loses another loved one to a gun.
Bruce has always been weak where it truly counts. He can't lose another robin.

Summary
The eerie light of the pit throws shadows along the cave walls. Across Tim’s face. All he ever wanted was to help Bruce fight, to keep him safe, and Bruce has let him down again. He can’t let him go.
Bruce wraps his arms around Tim’s limp body, takes a breath, and sinks underneath the surface with him. The pit is not deep, ten feet maybe. He opens his eyes. Looks up through the green fog above him. They land on the bottom, Tim’s body moving in a way that makes Bruce’s chest ache. He is meat, and bones, and Bruce is clinging to him like a doll. He wants to be sick.
The pit will give Tim back, but that is not enough. If Bruce had his way, the pit would take him in exchange.
There are far worse things to die for than Timothy Drake.
