Summary
After Eleven’s death, Mike Wheeler has no language for what he feels toward Will Byers. He follows him to New York and expresses it the only way he knows how: by holding on too tight.
Same roof. Same college. Same bed. Same ritual every night. Will keeps asking what they are. Mike keeps not answering.
It takes a paint-stained studio and a fight neither of them walks away from intact for the world to finally go quiet. Will stops hearing that day.
Two thousand miles apart, they are both learning a new alphabet. In Seattle, Will is learning to stop punishing himself for being alive. In New York, Mike is learning, for the first time in his life, how to use his hands gently.
or:
Mike Wheeler has OCD, Will Byers is too good at being needed, and the thing they keep doing in the dark only gets a name after Will loses his hearing and love has to learn a new language through their hands

Summary
Will is going to die.
Not how he thought he would. Not in a mess of vines and slime at the end of the world or the razor sharp claws of a Demogorgon.
It'll be his own fault. It'll be punishment for something he tried to bury inside himself. They know what he is and they're doing it in the name of a god that hadn't been there for Will no matter how loud he cried.
Or
Hawkins has been plagued with deaths, disappearances and despair. It's more than a few that have noticed it all changed the night of November 6th 1983. William Byers has been claimed by the devil and will answer to God, one way or another.

He stares at Will's mouth. "Please."
"Again."
El is gone.
Will tries to figure out how to move on in New York, and Mike follows him. Their apartment is haunted not by ghosts, but by the two of them.
Or: Catastrophically traumatized boys cling to each other and accidentally figure out how to be close—too close—while moving through their grief.

Summary
Mike Wheeler comes home after six months away expecting things to fall back into place.
They don’t.
Will is different. Quieter. Careful in ways that don’t make sense. And when he shows up to Jonathan and Nancy’s wedding with Carlton, someone Mike has never met but instantly doesn’t trust. something in Mike’s gut tells him this isn’t just change. Something is wrong.
So Mike does the only thing he can think of.
He finds a reason to stay.
A writing course in New York. A stupid excuse, really, but close enough to keep an eye on Will, close enough to figure out what’s going on behind the tight smiles and late-night silences.
The closer he gets, the clearer it becomes: Will isn’t okay. And Carlton is at the centre of it.
But saving Will isn’t simple. It never has been.
Because somewhere between stolen moments, quiet conversations, and everything left unsaid… they start falling back into something that never really went away.
And Mike makes himself a promise:
He’s not leaving this time.
And he’s not leaving without Will.
