Summary
It’s been one year since Merlin had last seen Arthur Pendragon: his best mate, and current CEO of Pendragon industries. One year since that fateful night where Merlin had left a gift on Arthur’s work desk, and opened his heart to Arthur, and was subsequently accosted by said best mate in the best of ways. One whole damned year since they'd gone back to Merlin's for several rounds of what had to be the best sex anyone has ever had in the history of ever.
One year since Merlin woke up to an empty bed and panicked, saw the spread of news coverage that all said the same thing: some time overnight Arthur became engaged with Gwen, their mutual friend from work. And it's been one year since his heart shattered into a million pieces.
But after a year away, just traveling the world and trying to find himself (and along the way finding a knack for photography), he gets a call from Gwaine that there's been a loss in the 'family' and that it was time to come home. But as secrets unravel like ribbons and new history comes to light, Merlin wonders if perhaps he'd run prematurely. All while navigating his returning feelings for the man who broke his heart and the boyfriend he’s bringing home for Christmas in Camelot.

“Nothing,” Arthur said, far too quickly. “He said nothing.”
“Arthur, you skipped training today and Gwen tells me you’ve been sitting here staring at your desk for the past twenty minutes. What did he say to you?”
“Nothing!” Arthur said once more, this time standing up from his chair, the chair clattering to the ground.
There was a pause when both men looked between each other, uncertainty and hesitation stopping them from making another move before finally Arthur sighed, slowly resetting his chair and sitting back down, a new air of tiredness filling the space between them. “It was stupid.”
Merlin moved to sit on his bed, eyes studying Arthur’s face. “Tell me anyway.”

Which was why when Gwaine had suggested the idea of a party, Arthur took it, hoping it would be like a get out of a jail free card, whisking him away from all of his responsibilities.
Except it hadn’t been.
If anything, it had only dragged him back into another cell, one that he had never seen coming.
Which was how he managed to get himself in this situation. With him sitting in the backseat of a car on the way back home, squeezed inside with a drunken Gwaine in the middle seat currently vomiting into a bag, and Merlin on the other end, his best friend that he had accidentally confessed his feelings for at the party.
Oh, and had he mentioned that Gwaine had thrown up on him right after he confessed his feelings?
Gods, he was so fucked.
