Shane ended up falling in love with Downton Abbey, discovering the show a year after it's run ended. Problem was he was a hockey player and he couldn't reveal his identity. He also wanted to discuss the show with someone, but the fandom was full of people who'd seen the whole show.
On an impulse, he made a burner account and sent out his first tweet, wondering if this was a dumb idea. But he was surprised and delighted to find someone had responded.

Summary
After the cancelled Montreal vs Boston game in 2011, Ilya didn’t reply to Shane’s text… and now, after agonizing over it for weeks, he has the perfect excuse to reach out. PerfectFarm, a Facebook game. Their conversation snowballs into easy banter, sexting and a friendship neither of them is willing to acknowledge.
Ilya didn’t know what to expect, he just wanted Hollander to pay attention to him. Now, he got more than he bargained for and he’s… charmed. Shane is happy to finally have someone to talk to. Rozanov doesn’t shut him down and he laughs at his jokes. They learn from each other and share stuff and its surprisingly… safe. No. It’s a problem.

He may be going into rut mid-game at the Bell Center; he might want to claim more than the omega's sweet ass; it's quite possible that not biting Shane's mating gland will have physiological consequences and drive his inner alpha mad; he definitely refuses to become like his father, but Shane consenting to sharing his rut with him isn't one of his problems.
OR
Ilya goes into rut in October 2016 in Montreal, and Shane agrees to share his rut with him. Things get a lot more intense than either of them was expecting, leading to Ilya going feral as the urge to mate Hollander drives his inner alpha mad and making his knot do interesting things.
