Yeah no life wasn’t great.
Tommy was easily, (barely), avoiding Social Services. Sleeping on benches and occasionally grass. He got whatever wasn’t wanted and had an official bag for the first time. He had some spare clothes, and no money. The authorities stopped looking for him after a while and the only main challenge was getting essentials.
No one would miss him. No one would look for him. Therefore he was the perfect target among many others. The only thing setting him apart was his sheer ability to survive, not a want, like many of the others, it was a fact he would survive. Not that his captors knew that of course.
Alt: Tommy gets kidnapped by aliens and sbi rescues him.

Sirius escapes Azkaban in August 1993. He has two goals: 1) Find Harry, 2) Kill Peter Pettigrew.
Sirius turns up at the Dursley's to check on Harry and things do not go as planned... but that's okay because what he finds is better.
"Sirius had been expecting the house to be grey, dark, and stale, but as he crossed the threshold he was hit with the smell of cooking food and the sounds of a warm crackling fire. As he walked through the foyer he found he was in the direct eye-line of a man, a familiar looking man who stood with impeccable posture at the long kitchen table cutting carrots. The man was of average height (slightly taller than Sirius), slim build, and had dark black curly hair that he kept tucked behind one ear. He continued chopping vegetables in tailored black slacks, heavy leather boots, and an expensive looking gray wool sweater. Most curiously about his appearance was the emerald green apron that was fitted around the man's waist that read “World’s Greatest Uncle” in silver lettering. "

Or in which the War with Gaea ends baddly, the Seven die, and Nico is sent back in time (maybe a little bit too early) after making a deal with a Titan. Well shit.
