Pushing open the door, the scent grew and confirmed his suspicions. He pulled out the back-most box and dug out a smaller shoe box. The white cardboard sagged under his fingertips; the smell ever stronger.
It was a simple box. From the only pair of shoes he had ever been given new, size 4. They hadn't fit a previous foster family's son, but he treasured them anyway.I wrote this all as quickly as humanly possible for natsume week. Warning, the ending is sudden. I may extend it later on and wrap it up :v

Summary
A captive mage to cruel hunters, Jaime has spent years hoping a werewolf pack would break through his wards, freeing the wolves and ending Eskender's quest for gold and blood.

Jaime looks to his own hands. When he was younger, much younger, he’d imagined travelling as a street performer to wow noblemen and urchins alike with his magic. A few years and much innocence later, he’d imagined at least using his powers for something good- imagined helping and healing, instead of cursing and mutilating.

It’s another mage in a Wolfpack story!!! Ahhhhh I’m obsessed. I wanted to spend a bit more time in the hunters camp and avoid some of the miscommunication trope cause it stresses me out haha. So get ready for a lot of hurt before they get rescued by the hearthstone pack and then a lot of comfort.
