Robin is a figment. A blooming mind-palace of colors and stench. Yellow oozes down walls like wounds drooling puss, and bodies rot red and black and bleed down stairs without stairs. Robins have wings, they have no need for stairs.
But the time for that has faded, and wings feel like cold air and nothing. The time is for warmth and a small body cradled inside his moth-eaten sweater. Dreams are nothing and so is he, and Jason is still a soft-cheeked child. And he matters. He is the world, and the world is love and fear, and the hope that spring will come before the darkness can eat them both.

Presently, Dick was running his tongue over his teeth, trying to seem super casual about the bombshell he just dropped. He’d said it so conversationally, like it was in the morning news. He didn’t want to come off as catastrophic when he said it, but he aimed a little too high with the ‘hey did you hear about this’ angle. He grimaced.
Bruce stared at him like he’d been hit. He looked up and down Dick now, analyzing every detail. His brain immediately felt like it was in crisis mode, but Dick seemed… relatively normal. He was fully dressed, appeared to be physically well, and wouldn’t seem out of the ordinary outside of his vague emotional discomfort. Bruce quickly deduced that his son had to be talking about a far in the past event. There’s no way this could’ve happened recently and Bruce not notice. But how could it have happened in the past and Bruce be unaware?

Every flicker of the tiny flame inside painted the walls with warm, beckoning light, and Dick's feet followed the shadows down the hallway. The ceiling, when he dared to glance up, loomed above him. There weren't gargoyles in the building itself, except in a few halls and ballrooms—ballrooms, for crying out loud!—but there were paintings. Large, regal paintings, made with oil and painted with such intricacy that their eyes followed his every step. All of the faces were ghostly, their clothes pristine, their lips curled in smiles that twisted into sneers in the lamplight. One pair of pale blue eyes were wide, as if afraid. Intruder, they seemed to say without words. Imposter.

Slade had noticed that his former apprentice had been going through some changes as of late. He's been ill, exhausted, and showing signs of fatigue. And when he was back in the tower, he did nothing but sleep, when he was usually causing mischief with his so-called "friends." Which was strange, even for him. In the beginning he merely surveyed the young hero. But when he noticed that someone else had taken a liking to watching the boy, he took action. What the mercenary did not expect to find was the mythical Court of Owls. And for some reason they wanted Robin. So he did some research of his own. Turns out the boy isn't as normal as he thought he was.
Or rather Slade kidnaps Robin, accommodates him through his Talon transformation, and now has to deal with the aftermath of his sudden impulse to the help the damn kid.
