Really, she felt a distant curiosity for this creature who’d sired her, and she did reply to most of his letters, full of questions about the war he was waging for a crown her mother said was worth naught but scorched crabs and sunken ships. He never replied long enough to strike up a correspondence, but he sent suitably lavish gifts for her namedays. Never a dragon egg, though, no matter how much she begged for one.
Later, her mother said, begrudgingly, that Daemon had in fact fought for his daughter to be permitted an egg, just as his brother the King’s children all had, but that was refused, largely through the influence of Ser Otto the Lord Hand, who said that the Iron Throne could not afford to let a third house gain the might of dragons. The Velaryons were quite enough of a bother already, apparently.
