"Based on Old French and Latin, means 'young swan'," Gogol replied in a loud, bothered tone, throwing away whatever semblance of wistfulness or romanticism could have been there. In other words, killing the mood.
Sigma remained silent.
". . .You do know what a swan is, right?" His tone was gentler now, a curious question rather than appalled.
Come on Gogol, they were literally born three days ago.
