Summary
Kaveh wasn’t used to this. He was used to the praises, the admiration, or even the sometimes disdainful looks from others. He wasn’t used to eyes that saw right through him. Eyes that pierced his heart and straight into his soul.
Vulnerability is normal for most people but for Kaveh, it’s a weakness. A person shouldn’t be able to know him just from a glance–to read his current emotion only from a miniscule twitch in his face. That’s only absurd.
However, Alhaitham somehow is able to know.

He was fine before. He did not dare dream of the impossible, never was inclined to it, really. But the slightest hint of a possibility always piqued his curiosity. Now, regrettably, was no different - however unreasonable it might be.
After all, as mirror images were bound to be, they, too, would likely be destined to remain forever opposed: Their philosophies and views on life too different to ever coexist.
The idea of anything else… well, it implied challenging all currently known laws that mirrors abided by, did it not?

"Oh, come on. you gotta admit the one about you being a bad kisser made you a little mad," Kaveh simpers.
"We've never kissed," Alhaitham says through gritted teeth. The blonde's grin widens into malicious satisfaction.
"Exactly! I mean, as far as I know, its true. It's not a wholly unadvised conclusion, though. A person that doesn't smile just can't be a good kisser. You know I'm right."
Alhaitham's responding smirk is as devastating as it is handsome. Kaveh falters, his confident grin slipping.
"To surmise I'm a bad kisser means you first had to think about kissing me."
Kaveh's space is crowded suddenly and that grin is wiped off his face entirely now.
"Careful, Kaveh. Don't forget I've spent the last six months finding every hole in every argument you've ever made."
He hates Alhaitham. Hates him so much.
"Don't forget that I spent two years by your side," his rival says angling closer, "I know exactly how your mind works."
"I know how you study, how you eat, how you sleep," a hand reaches forward, cupping Kaveh's jaw, redirecting that avoidant crimson gaze back to him.
"And now, I know every thought behind your petty little rumors."

Kaveh held back his sarcasm. This guy was already getting on his nerves, and it didn't help that this was his eighth appointment of the day. “Tell me what you’re looking for in a relationship.”
“Companionship," Alhaitham replied. "Someone to go home to. A second opinion when I would like to discuss something. Casual company. Someone to get to know on an intimate level. Someone to be physically comfortable with. Someone who understands me.”

When Alhaitham sees Kaveh's face, unobscured and perfect and freckled, he understands, suddenly, as if cool water has been poured over him, what the poets saw when they saw they gazed up at the sun and then the stars. He understands what it means to be spun from stardust and he understands, more than ever, the fascination with the yellow ball in the sky that's decorated Kaveh's skin with freckles.
He understands, fully, what it means to see and know.
He sees and he knows and and there is still plenty he doesn't know, doesn't understand, but now he knows why space exists between his fingers. He knows why the sun is beloved, why the stars have poets turning their heads upwards to gaze upon them.

Summary
“Shit- ow, ow,” Kaveh whined pathetically as he attempted to raise his arms above his head in a simple stretch, one that only seemed to bring him more misery.
“Would you like help?” Alhaitham asked as he flipped the page. He was careful to keep his tone disinterested, lest Kaveh grow suspicious of his intentions.
“When are you ever helpful?” Kaveh grumbled in response, splaying his hands cautiously over his lower back with a hiss.
It wasn’t an agreement, but it also wasn’t a denial – just one of the many contradictions that made up Kaveh. Alhaitham closed the book whose title he'd already forgotten and set it on the coffee table as he pushed himself up to stand, satisfied enough with Kaveh's non-answer.
“I’ve been known to commit an altruistic act every now and then,” Alhaitham hummed.
Kaveh has been in pain recently, and Alhaitham has a solution in mind. His plan works as intended – Kaveh starts to trade his bad habits for healthier ones, but that’s not all that changes. Kaveh is acting friendlier, or perhaps something more than friendly. Alhaitham is skilled at weathering Kaveh’s contempt – he’s not sure he can survive Kaveh’s affection.
