Outside their window, the trilling sound of the rainstorm battering against the sashes reaches its crescendo.
Jisung huffs and blows a piece of his fringe out of his eyes as he obeys the instruction unquestioningly. Waiting.
And Gods, Minho is so hopelessly in love with him.
How Jisung sits so primly amid the wasteland of sheets like a great ruler surveying a conquest. The tiny crescents of teeth marks in his full bottom lip. The ochre glow of lust and fondness in his eyes. The unexpected gravel of his sleep-roughened voice. The crooked delicacy of his furled hands. The thin slant of moonlight that illuminates the taut lines of his shape.
The way he knows just what to do, how to be around Minho without it ever feeling like enough time together. Jisung could never be too much.
So Minho leans down and kisses him. Just like that. Just because he wants to. Because he can.

Taesan looks back at Leehan, at the jacket across his lap and at the faint scale-imprints that trace down his legs. Everything about his posture seems indifferent to the fact that his life is about to end. His days are numbered to twenty nine, but the merman in front of him doesn’t seem to care at all. Taesan can’t help but ask.
“And…you’re not scared?”
Leehan actually thinks about the question genuinely. He turns back towards Taesan, then at the sea in front of him, like he’s trying to gesture at a feeling or something too grand and inexplicable for a human like Taesan to understand.
“No,” he says finally. “Twenty-two years is a complete life for us. I’ve seen everything I was supposed to have seen. I just haven’t seen this part of life yet.”
OR: Taesan, a coastal guard, finds a merman washed up on shore, with only twenty-nine days left to live and a dream of knowing what life is like as a human, so Taesan decides to show him around. Unfortunately, one lunar cycle is both exactly enough and nowhere near enough.

Mike Wheeler, a recent marine biology graduate, works at the coastal aquarium in the small town where he was born, where marine animals are rehabilitated before being released back into the ocean. Nights there are usually quiet: feeding the sea lions, checking the tanks, and making sure the gate connecting the tanks to the sea stays closed.
Until one night, he finds blood in the water.
Hidden in a corner of the tank are two drenched and terrified strangers: a wounded boy and a girl who keeps staring at him as if she’s ready to pounce. They say few words, seem not to understand the human world… and there is something deeply strange about them. Their eyes shine too brightly in the light. Their skin doesn’t feel quite human. Water stretched as far as the eye could see, and further still, on to the edges of the world. This was an ocean. Wind’s world, maybe? The sky above enclosed the world, bright blue dotted with fluffy white. It thankfully didn’t look like it would storm soon, but Legend knew how quickly that could change on the water. The portal above that had dumped him here had disappeared. Great, a separation portal. Legend loved those.
