Summary
Cardan never wanted the crown, but after the King's death he doesn't really have a choice.
Jude knows there's something wrong with it long before it's placed on his head, though she can't tell anyone how she knows without risking everything.
At first nothing changes, then little things start slipping: forgotten conversations, harsher decisions, a king who feels like himself no more.
While the rest of the court calls it growth, Jude is forced to watch the curse slowly take hold and race to find a way to stop it before theres nothing left of the boy underneath the crown. -

I started writing this because I wanted something specific from the Cardan POV fics during Jude's imprisonment in the Undersea but then I just kept going further back in the timeline so uh here's all of The Cruel Prince from Cardan's POV. My goal is to make this a three-part work with each part corresponding to one of the main trilogy books, but I am simply following the serotonin so we will see if we make it that far.

Summary
Jude is in her early twenties, struggling to adjust to adulthood and make ends meet. Despite her coming out about a local hit band's singer, Locke, sexually assaulting her, the rest of the scene turns a blind eye. She takes things into her own hands, swearing with a vengeance that she will become a better musician and steal his spotlight no matter what.
Along the way, she finds a nemesis in a talented bassist, Cardan, who wears eyeliner, hits on Jude, and is really fucking annoying. As much as she hates it, they end up striking a bargain to make sure Locke loses his place in the scene at all costs... even if it means ending Jude's long standing single status in appearances to get back at their common foe.

Most of the diary entries were simple recounts of her day: breakfast, the shapes of clouds, particularly striking faces of the smallfolk. Some of them were detailed explanations of the things she desired the most: the desire she felt to dine with the nobles, how the smell of roast duck and racks of lamb permeated through the entire crypt as she'd prepared Jon Arryn's body. Another entry contained her thoughts on seeing a knight flirting with a peasant girl outside of the Motherhouse. All she wanted, she had written, was to feel someone's hands on her skin, at least for the moment.
Today, her entry was about the Hound.

“If I didn’t know better, it would sound like you care for me.” A small smile creeps on his lips.
“It’s a good thing you do know better,” I say. His smile remains, but his eyes narrow at me. “Your death would cause me a headache and I am quite busy.”
“Very well. Do you have any recommendations?”Formally "This Feels Like a Date." The fic has evolved a lot and the old title hasn't made sense since chapter 6.
