Oscar Piastri is a year out of culinary school and struggling to make ends meet when his old mentor Mark sets him up with a job interview to be a private chef at McLaren Manor, the ancestral home of the Norris family.
Lando is the second son of Lord Norris, every inch the aristocrat he was raised to be. Beautiful, lonely, bored - and miserable. Engaged to the beautiful Margarida and with little else to fill his time besides parties and working through his vast inheritance, Lando finds himself growing more enamoured with Oscar by the day.

Oscar had seen the photos, the horror evident on his face. He stepped back in disbelief, his heart breaking with every breath.
Finally, he looked at Lando. He should have never let him in ,never opened up to him. It was all his fault.
“So it really was you. You went there by yourself…” Oscar said, hurt lacing his voice.
His expression hardened.
“Don’t show me your face again. Not if…not if you want the red card.”
“Oscar, I can explain. It wasn’t my fault,” Lando said desperately, trying to pull Oscar back into his explanation.
“Oh, I know it wasn’t ba- Lando. It was my fault. I should have never spoken to filth like you.”
With that, Oscar turned and walked out.

It’s over in half a second. All of Lando’s dreams slipping through her fingers like sand. Half a second is all it takes to destroy years of work, her life’s work gliding by as she only half registers the back of Oscar’s rear wing as he sails past her. There’s a voice in her ear, information flowing in, information that she’s supposed to digest and give her own input to. Try to salvage this. But Lando isn’t hearing it, there’s a ringing in her ears, she can’t focus.
The only thing on her mind is that Lando fucking Norris bottled the start again.

The villa was quiet except for the soft clink of cutlery and the gentle crash of the waves outside. Oscar and Lando had slaved over making pasta earlier, tossed with fresh garlic and sun-dried tomatoes. For Lando, the homemade food was a comforting luxury that time rarely afforded him, now that he had inherited the empire his father had left behind. A kingdom of shadows lay at his command, run on loyalty and power. Oscar was his right-hand, the lawyer who should have been worlds away from the danger of the mafia, was instead woven tightly into the thread of the empire. He cleaned up the messes, tied the loose ends, and was the sole reason behind the Norris empire being untouchable on paper.
This was a frozen piece of time, where they let themselves be two men in love — the mafia boss and his lawyer, sitting across from each other, sharing a home-cooked meal.
