Roy doesn’t trust this New and Improved Tartt, doesn’t trust his motivations. After all, the prick is only here out of desperation because no one else would go near him after the LCA stunt. He finally needs Richmond as much as they need him, and he’s probably realised that he has to be tolerable if he wants some fucking friends. So, no, Roy doesn’t trust him, and frankly, he’s just waiting for the ball to drop; for Tartt to go back to his annoying prick ways.
All of this to say, he feels somewhat vindicated when Jamie returns to his prick bullshit come Monday morning claiming he can’t play because he’s hurt, obviously sulking because Sam scored the match-winning goal on Saturday. However, when Roy walks in on Tartt changing and sees the man’s torso mottled with dark bruises, he realises just how wrong he is, and just how much pain Tartt’s been hiding behind the prick facade.

Summary
Early in Ted’s tenure as coach, Sam and Jamie end up as roommates during an away game. That night Sam discovers Jamie is suicidal after Jamie asks him to sit with him, feeling like he might kill himself if he’s left alone. Jamie thinks Sam will leave him be afterwards, but Sam can’t just let Jamie walk away knowing all this, it wouldn’t be right.
Sam’s attempt to look out for Jamie, even if Jamie thinks it’s not necessary, pushes him to become more confident and assertive, stepping up as a leader. Meanwhile, Jamie is pushed to be more open by Sam refusing to let him go on as if any of this is okay or normal. As their friendship develops, Jamie grapples with his childhood trauma, while Sam works through how he feels about becoming friends with someone who has bullied him in the past, as well as figuring out how to feel about the fact that Ted and Roy are imperfect people too, especially when it comes to how they approach Jamie.
