Summary
“Aegnor!” she cries out, once only, as sharp and forlorn as the calls of the vanished loons. Her voice rings out over the tarn; she fancies that it leaves the night-black water troubled in its wake. But the ripples smooth in a moment – if they were ever there. No one calls out to her in answer. The world is as still as the mirror of the water, and the mirror is clouded over with the smoke of the sky.
Andreth sinks back slowly against the slope of the bank. She rests her head among the dried and broken grasses. She shuts her eyes.
She wakes in the gray-lit hour before sunrise, and he is there.

Summary
He makes swords. They are for his own House, for the battle to come; this is permitted, this is according to his orders. If he forges more weapons than he has warriors to wield them - well, is there such a thing as being too well-armed? Ah, and his hammers turn in his hands as they never did before; his blows do not land true. So many of these swords are ill-made, unbalanced; they will not serve, he must not give such unworthy metalwork in offering. If he sets them in the armories of Gondolin, it is only to allay suspicion.

Summary
Breath comes back to you, slow and cool; all that is around you seems indistinct, an image seen through water. You hear the voices of dogs from somewhere beyond the house; they too are muffled, distant.
When you look to the window he is already there.

Summary
It still seemed weird to Miko that you could drive for hours in America and be inside the same region. In the early days of her exchange here, she'd asked about it a lot. "Are we still in Nevada?" "Still Nevada?" "Still Nevada?" and the bleak desert landscape had stretched on and on and on, into the horizon and, apparently, forever.
[Miko and Bulkhead take a trip out to a drive-in theatre for a school project. Miko, at least, has a very educational night.]
