“Naomi,” Fukuzawa says severely. “Do you understand what you’re telling me?”
Naomi stares at him, straightening, and she knows without saying what he’s really asking. “Yes.”
He sighs. She almost wants to apologize, but she bites her tongue at the last second; she does know what she’s doing, after all. It’s possibly one of her worst decisions, but if it gives her a chance to protect everyone else – to protect Junichirou – then it’s the best one she’s ever made.
(After the end of the war, Naomi volunteers herself to go to the Port Mafia. She expects to hate it. She doesn't expect Gin.)

Officially, Dazai Osamu betrays the Port Mafia at eighteen years of age and disappears to never be seen by them again, which is the only logical and possible way to not be caught.
Unofficially, it seems someone failed to inform him of this. Or the boss. Or the executives. Or literally any member of the mafia.

She’s not being fair, she knows, but how can he stand there and act like he didn’t betray them all? Gin and Hirotsu ended up in the hospital. Higuchi had to go visit them there, and she’d nearly cried for them out of worry.
She had done the same for Tachihara, too, because he’d visited them once and then disappeared, and none of them knew where he’d ended up or if he was even alive.
(Before the dust settles, Higuchi and Tachihara run into each other once more.)

“Really?” Lucy asks, but relief breaks over her face like a wave. “I’m glad. I’ll see you around, then?”
That’s even worse, but they can’t bring themself to turn her down quite as harshly. “Okay,” Gin signs, and tells themself that it’s just because they don’t think she’ll understand anything more complicated.
Lucy grins, sharp and wide and bright, and nods to them before disappearing back around the campus hallways in a flurry of tulle and patchwork skirts.
(There's a new transfer student in Gin's class. They don't feel strongly about this at all.)
