It had been seventeen months.
Seventeen months of long nights of spore filled lungs, aching feet and permanently stiff trigger fingers with nothing to show for it.
The Upside Down remained empty. Quiet. Waiting.
The metaphorical wall had been hit fairly quick, but they couldn't afford to lose vigilance now. Not with Vecna still breathing, stewing somewhere just out of reach and tormenting Will's dreams almost every night.
Caution certainly couldn't be lost, because while the Upside Down had been quiet—it was morphing.

Summary
MJ hummed, his arms crossing over his chest. He leaned a bit closer, voice low. "Good boy. That's why you're my favorite, you know."
That was another thing about his boss. He was a huge flirt. But it didn't mean anything, it never did. He was the GM of a fine dining establishment— charming patrons was a part of the job description. Maybe sometimes that blinding ray of charm was flashed upon Will, but he had just figured it was hard for MJ to turn it off. Hell, when Will clocked out it was rather difficult to shake his customer facing personality, too. Banter had always been easy between the two of them, but it didn't mean anything.
But 'good boy'? That was new.

Summary
Will had always felt left behind. Whether it be in love or in life, he lagged behind the rest through no fault of his own.
Stuck living with Lonnie until he turns eighteen after his parents messy divorce and bullied nonstop at school, he tried to seek solace in his best friends—that was until they started to leave him behind, too.
It’s senior year. Mike is still with Jane. Will is still in love with him despite all attempts to move on.
He had resigned himself that he could never have Mike, and he should be okay with that.
He could deal with the loneliness until he could rejoin his mother and brother after school finishes.
He could handle being undesired. It was fine.
Until an unknown person messages him on AIM one January evening and shows him just how desired he really is.Or: It’s 2003. Mike stalks Will. Will is oblivious as to who it could be—until he isn’t.

Summary
The voices of Lucas and Dustin fade out entirely, until it's just little Mike with Will seated before him like a sacrificial lamb. For a moment, all is quiet, the light above the game table casts them in a soft glow. It’s almost…sweet. Endearing. Calm. Nothing but the sound of water lapping at the furniture and younger Mike’s softly mumbled assurances.
A ghastly red light violates the illusion with no warning, seeping through the basement windows, coming out of the walls. The temperature drops so quickly the pressure makes Mike’s ears pop. The clock, which had been silent through the exchange, starts ticking again.
Mike watches in horror as his younger self’s grip suddenly tightens on Will’s face as the red hue overtakes the room.

He was no longer in Hawkins, that much Will knew for certain.

“Such a gentleman.”
Mike’s throat goes dry, focused on the curve of Will’s lips and how he relaxes against Mike’s coat. “Yeah?”
“Mhm.” Will’s smile is soft, almost sleepy. “God, now I remember why I was so in love with you when we were younger.”
Mike can’t breathe. Will’s lashes flutter, heavy with alcohol.
“Wh- what? No you- no you weren’t.”
“Psh-” Will waves at him with a hand for a moment before lowering his arms back onto Mike’s jacket, pillowing his head against them, comfortable. “Of course I was.”
Mike swallows thickly. He might’ve drank too much. He’s going to be sick.

Summary
The clerics of the Second Dawn have been tasked with helping evacuate the last civilians from the lower valley. The paladins of the Vigil have been sent there to keep them alive long enough to reach Asterhold.
Brother William Byers expected a dangerous road, dwindling provisions, and perhaps more wounded than his Order had warned them about.
He did not, however, expect Paladin Michael Wheeler: a rigid, exasperatingly practical man determined to protect Will whether he likes it or not.
But the road west is long, war is drawing near, and somewhere between Dunmarrow and the Last Bridge, duty begins to look like devotion, and devotion like love.

Summary
Mike grew up in his family's funeral home, spent most of his life around dead bodies, and eventually starts working there as an assistant.
He's also spent most of his life seeing Will Byers around town. They don't know each other, exactly, but in a town this small, you don't really get to be a stranger.
So when Will's body ends up on one of Mike's tables, he recognizes him immediately.
It's an unfortunate way to finally meet someone.
It's even more unfortunate when Will comes back to life.

Summary
Joyce Byers gave birth to two omega boys, something Lonnie Byers decided he didn't want to be a part of once they presented. Or, once Jonathan presented that is, as Will was still too young then. But Lonnie knew. Knew by Will's disinterest in anything too aggressive, by his gentle manners and tone, by his need to be protected. He knew a weak woman like Joyce won't give him an alpha son.
His own father was the first alpha Jonathan ever had to fight. There have been many others since then.
a.k.a. Omega Jonathan gets put in situations throughout canon timeline (with tweaks).
