He's worked out the rudimentary basics of hydroponics. Some sort of piping and irrigation, little pots, hearty plants, pH testing that will require a lot more research, but what in the ever-loving galaxy is Leca? He's in over his head and he knows it, but telling his students at Grover Cleveland Middle as much would break their little hearts. They're almost as excited about growing food! In the classroom! as Ryland is to teach them about photosynthesis. He wants them to really see the growth process for themselves. He wants them to grow something together, something with tender little leaves, coaxing them to unfurl and reach for the light, zooming in on the veins and chlorophyll that fill them with life, vitality.
Ryland has a PhD, he can figure out a grow system. Except that apparently, he can't.
(Or, can love grow hydroponically? Do a cult survivor and a disgraced academic have more in common than they realize? And will Rocky ever let Grace live any of this down?)

Dennis had asked for this. He'd fidgeted and picked at his cuticles until Robby had kissed it out of him, face buried in the curve of Robby's neck, unable to look him in the eye. In a kinky little mirror of the traditional confessional, he'd told Robby he'd been having trouble sleeping.
